It seems consumes all my network resources
« on: May 15, 2004, 10:55:23 AM »

Greetings

I find that my network is slower when running aMule 1.2.6.  Once, I used emule based on Windows (http://www.project-emule.org) but my browser could run well as well as  my friends browser (We share internet connection using DLink router).

After using aMule, our browser are slower than before, many times they show time out. When turning off the amule, our network run faster.

I have configured the connection setting by setting download rate 18 kb/sec and upload 8 kb/sec and trying many configuration value but they do not work. my network is still slower with amule on it.

Is there any bugs on aMule? or I have to reconfigure somthing in the preferences to make free my network resource.

hardly does the aMule use the all the download capacity. Eventhough it just downloads in 2 kB/sec the network is still slower. My best download rate is just 6kB/sec

Thanks for any attention and suggestion

best regards

obviously it has bugs ;-)
But it shouldn't take so much bandwidth. Something is most surely wrong on your network. People on dialup can still browse while running aMule, so you should be able to :-/
About the 6KBps transfer rate, just make sure to have aMule as much time as possible running and sharing. The more time, the more credits and the more score, so that's the only way to gain a nice download ratio ;-)

Greetings.

Is it possible becouse of loging as root?

Greetings

I read other thread, from xMule README file. It was  suggested not to log in as root (it couses problem). And i  was using root login. Now i uses user login and I think that my network is faster than before (i hope it is true not just my feeling)

Is it true? is there any different if we are log in as a root and not as a root while runnig amule?

And is it possible to move all the server list and the downloaded part from root login directory to the user login directory? so that I do not have to download the already downloaded file in root login (can i just move the file from root/temp and root/incoming to the user directory?)

thank for previous respons. Iam really appreciate that :)

best regrads

You should NEVER run any program as root if you can run it as a normal user. Anyway, it shouldn't make a difference in the network traffic when using aMule.
And yes, you can safely move the files from your root's temp dir to your user's temp dir ;-)

could make a difference if your linux gives priority to root's network packets.

is it a problem if running the amule and bittorent in the same time
« Reply #6 on: May 16, 2004, 12:11:43 PM »

Greetings

I am just curious, is there a problem like a slow browsing rate if we use amule and bittorent in the same time?
I tried before emule and kazaa in Windows system, but it seems there was no problem. i still can browse faster than today :)

i still try to find "mistakes" in my network that couse the network slow. Any idea? for overall, i use just amule and my friends is using bittorent. But either wih or without bittorent, the network is slow :) Bittorent eats 6kB dl and 8kB upload and my amule 5kb dl and 5kB up, and i use ADSL 768 connection :(

I am prepared to call the ISP and complain if i find an evidence that their make the problem :D Any suggestion ?
