amule - emule
« on: June 03, 2004, 05:45:24 AM »

amule and emule uses the same files - like server.met and so on...
I use windows and linux so i'm using emule and amule....
therefor i would like both progs to use the same files insted of htere own files... that way the cradits users got on amule will take efect on emule and so on...
i tried linking the files but sence the prog delete and renames the files - they delete the link and create a regular file therefor the credits dont take efect on emule
any ideas?

also - i find it senceless to limit the d/l acording to the u/l....
its hurn enough fo rthe prog to get a larg d/l rate so when it can finly pass the d/l let it be - the file will d/l faster - more sorces for others....

I can answer you about the second question: that's being a leecher. If aMule did so, it would be banned from other clients. This is the only way to keep the ed2k network alive. Any client who plays tricks and cheates with the purpose of downloading more is banned, and you might agree that that's ok ;-)
About the first one, no idea really why its not sharing eMule files... I don't know if it's possible or will be possible. I hope someone will answer :-P

hey

well it definatly should be possible to share your credits, know.met aso with emule and amule because files are the SAME.
aMule is a 100% compatible with eMule so it is no problem to take your win32 credits to aMule and back. only difference is the prefs file but that is about it...
sharing temp files with eMule is also no problme...

what I am not 100% sure of is if aMule can use the files from eMule if you LINK them in the .aMUle dir...
make sure that the files you link are not on a NTFS-partition....
if its not the case you can try to copy them from your eMule dir to the aMUle dir and see then if aMUle uses them...

PS. little "workearound" could be never tryed it thou... create a new user, place its home dir on a FAT32 partition..let amule create its files...copy the eMUle files in the same directory and see if it works...

" if you LINK them in the .aMUle dir" <- that won't work.
AFAIK, aMule creates new files instead of modifying the files, so, it destrys completly the previous fiel and reates a new one. As a result, if you create a link, it will be replaced with a regular file :-P
Anyway, if you test it, confirm this.

emule and amule uses the same files as in server.met and so on and you can copy them from one to another

the thing is it delets the server.met.old and renames server.met to be server.met.old and creates a new server.met
and by doing so - it deletes the symbolic link

if insted of deleting and renaming  it  overwrite the files

then you could shere them with simbolic link without it being deleted
and by doing so - you dont need to copy the files from on eprog to the other every time you reboot to a difrent  O.S

a simple to make feature and a very usefull one

hope to see it running

Well, there's still a big problem. Allowing the whole ~/.aMule directory to be placed elswhere would become a  big issue since it has a socket file and lots of FS (including FAT32) don't support that. But well, it's something to think about. I'd also like to have that feature in fact ;-)

server.met
clients.met
known.met
server.met
all this *.old files are deleted
and the *.met are renamed to *.old
so it takes 2 times and no more symbolic link... :(

thats the files i know of... but i asume that all files that have a *.old backup are the same...
