Not Connecting To ALL Sources
« on: August 06, 2004, 11:56:58 PM »

I've noticed for a while now that when I do a search for a file, it says it has 28 sources for it. But when I go to download it, it only tries to connect to maybe 5, then gradually more until after about 3 days it gets to 28 sources. Is this normal? Why is it not trying to connect to all the sources that it found in the Search window?

notice, that the sources are not only on one server .. u can try to change the server sometimes (to find the srcs faster), but not too often cos u could get blacklisted.

The reason im asking is because ive tried searching the same file one a windows/emule machine and came up with 3 users on local server, and 15 on other servers... when i clicked download it connected to 10 right away :/ ... is there really a reason you cant connect to people on other servers? Maybe i need to read some docs on the server :S

"Once they are in the Download list, eMule first queries the local (connected) server then all other servers in the network for sources to that particular download. The server looks up the file’s hash value in its database and returns the clients it knows for having it."

thats straight from the emule help files. So it seems it shouldnt matter how many are on the current server.

As stated, the local server will be asked first, however, these requests are still queued along with your other downloads, since we dont want to barrage the server with requests for sources. So the more downloads you have, the longer it could take before aMule starts asking for sources for that file. The same goes for global searches.
