no server list, no connection on MacOS X!
« on: August 23, 2004, 08:26:33 PM »

Hi Masters of the Unixverse!

When I start aMule (on MacOS X 10.3.5) (how to see aMule version in use? info on folder amule.app shows 0.1 !!!! is it aMule CVS?), I have always the message:

Unable to retrieve server list
No server list address entry in 'addresses.dat'. Please paste a valid serverlist address into this file in order to auto-update your serverlist

If I start it manually, the messages on the terminal are:

Initialising aMule
Userhash loaded: 722B9391520EA5ACE3BDBDD4B3F46FD1
*** UDP socket at 4665
*** TCP socket at 4662
*** UDP socket at 4672
Serverlist loaded.
*** reading servers
Loading temp files from /Users/luis/.aMule/Temp/*.part.met.
Empty dir /Users/luis/.aMule/Incoming/ shared
(and after a while)
Hashing thread timed out with no aditions - removing thread
Hashing thread ended

and the aMule log window shows:

aMule CVS
0 servers in server.met found
No part files found
Founf 0 known shared files
Connecting
Disconnected
No valid servers to connect in serverlist found
Can't open file /Users/luis/.aMule/preferences.dat'
Can't open file /Users/luis/.aMule/preferences.dat'
Failed to load creditfile
Loaded IP filter with 0 IP addresses

(if I create an empty preferences.dat, the messages about preferences.dat are not shown)

and no connection is possible. Every time I try to connect I got:

Connecting
No valid servers to connect in serverlist found

I tried EVERYTHING! nothing works (permissions, adding manual server list and changing prefs, some advices found on the FAQs, installing on different directories, even starting as root (okay: it is not a good idea but I'm really lost and unable to get clues about te problem)....... deleting and reinstalling each time, of course, I deleted and installed it hundreds of times)
Every time I try to put something on the field "servers" I got "invalid URL", ALWAYS! (maybe if I could open "file:/location/server.met", file that I downloaded from http://www.srv1000.com, I had more clues, but I got ..... "invalid URL")
If I try to "add" a "manual server address" I got "Please enter a serveraddress", no matter what I put on this field (like previous one! always the same error message)

What I'm doing wrong? Where the problem can be?
Thanks in advance.

copy the URL to your browser, download the file manually (server.met) and save it to ~/.aMule/server.met

Your problem should be gone then or maybe it is an outstanding mac issue. Tell us please if my tip worked.

You really are Masters of the Unixverse, but the better is that this forums really works!

Gracias, tíos, sois cojonudos.

(now it starts, it connects ..... and it crashes: I'll investigate and keep you informed)
