How far is amule GUI/core split development?
« on: October 22, 2004, 11:03:09 PM »

How far is amule GUI/core split development? Im thinking about switching from mldonkey, but im using another machine to download stuff. I know it was possible even before, but you had to compile Xwindows (or one that pretends to be such), and probably there wasnt many Windows GUI programs. Have anything changed?

Amulecmd works fine for me with amule-cvs(same as rc7 at moment) and wxgtk 2.5.3 using gtk1.It is quite limited in features however:
*Can't search
*Can't see total upload/download speed
*lack of text completion
*lack of support for listing downloads by name using wildcards/regular expressions or of sorting files by their status or any other category.
*need to know the exact server address to connect rather then just by name...maybe writing the address in you hosts file will work though
*can't see what server you are currently connected to
* can't run gui at same time

That being said it seems to download and upload perfectly fine from an xterm...I have yet to try from a pure console yet but I will need to soon for the new kernel I just built ,so I can check then.

running "amuled" together with "amuleweb" will solve your problems (most of them).

amuleweb doesn't work for me.I get the blank page bug that some people are getting. And you can't run the webserver from a pure console I expect unless some console browser can handle it(no console browser can handle my router config server). And don't get me wrong I like amulecmd..it just needs some work :)

Sorry, never heard of such bug. Pls provide some more info about it.

Of course you can ! This is simple command line program. If you want to run it on background, use "amuleweb -q -pw=" to disable stdin.

Moreover, you don't have to run amuleweb on same computer you run amule. You can specify in command line host and port where amule is running.

amulecmd and amuleweb uses same interface to amule. If one works, another should as well.

"I get the blank page bug that some people are getting" <- that's because you haven't put the aMule.tmpl file into ~/.aMule/ directory.
Have you read http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/Webserver ?
Check the file's permissions also :P
