Yeah, I know ! There's about 10000 posts on this topic, and believe me; I've been there....... (They all just link to the aMule FAQ sites) I just don't get it ! I spent days just on installing this "thing", and when I finally made it I get this shit;  "Port 4662 is not avaliable! and blah, blah...... " And as long as I got "LOWID", the whole &%¤%¤/ !!!  thing is useless  :baby:

I've tried several things posted in aMule related forums, but nothing happens....


I'm running Mandrake 10.0 final, Got a Billion 640AE broadband Firewall Gateway (router), aMule 2.0.0rc7. My firewall is turned off in Mandrake (checked for "everything" or no firewall.

I also took a look at the router setup, but I'm not sure how or where to configure the port settings.
 
Can someone tell me what to do step by step and I'll post back what happens  ;-)
 
I get LOWID in both aMule and overnet eDonkey2000

hey

I dont know how this is called in your router but check for "nat" "virtuell server" or soemthing alike.
you have to forward the ports to the IP address of your mdk linux box.

so this seams definetly a router problem, if you are sure that your firewall in mdk is turned off.

Thx for fast reply ! Yeah, I think too there might be a router problem here. My router got the "Virtual Server" option. I've been there but not quite sure what to put in there....

Here is the setup in Virtual Server option in my router:
 
Item (goes from 1 to 15)
Type (tcp,udp,both)                                                                                Service Port (this option got two boxes to fill in,   |___| - |___|   )
Map To (just a box with an arrow who pionts to the next option; "IP Adress")
IP Address  (got allready some numbers pinned in, except from the 3 last one, the numbers are 192.168.1.xxx)
Enable (have to check this box if  the alternatives above are right I think....)

I know the tcp port for aMule is 4662 (standard in the aMule preferences though..) and 4672 for udp ?  or something.... and isn't there +3 alternative on the 4662 port (4665)??

It's a little bit confusing, but maybe you figure this out ?  ;-)

OK. Here's the deal. I don't know how I did it, but I tried to set up a virtual server in my router, and wooops....aMule are up and running with highid  

This is what I did:

First I found this link: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=251629

which made me think "hell, I'll give it a try"  :-) In "virtual setup", in my router, I setup Item 1 as type = tcp, and in service port (with the two boxes to fill in...) I filled in 4662 in the first box and 4665(+3 remember   ;-) in the second box. When filling in the ipadress I thought it must be the ip on this computer (local). In console I typed "netstat" , and the first 7 lines looked like this:

(I filled in the x's under local adress for security reasons, not sure if it's worth it, but anyway....   hehe) I filled in the 3 last digits from my local ip adress, checked for "enable", and finaly "apply".   BINGO !

There was also some ip adressess to fill in at the bottom of this setup page in my router, but didn't care about those.

DMZ IP Address: 192.168.1.(xxx)

IPSec Pass Through Address: 192.168.1.(xxx)

And another thing is that I didn't setup the UDP in my router, so I'm not sure what happens without this, but I'm downloading the moment I write these words, so everything looks ok so far

good luck
but udp is mainly for source exchange...so amule will work fine without udp but a little slower sources excahnges...so nothing really to worry about.

BUT:
when you set your linux box into DMZ zone it is basically diretly connected to the internet. so you will have all ports opend! whcih is kinda a secuity risk....just to let you know
