Features
« on: February 07, 2005, 12:11:25 AM »

Hi guys

First of all, I'm new here just upgraded my sys from Windows to Linux (Suse 9.2 with KDE 3.3 on Kernel 2.6.8) because Windows sucks ;).

I think a basic feature to integrate is the support for Kademla, but i read somwhere here that it will be integrated in the future.
Then I think it would be very great to have the support for Webcache function (I used MorphXT 5.18), but i don't know if its hard to realize.

Then you can think 'bout the Powershare function if it isn't already available.

Last but not least there are 3 functions in MorphXT that are really useful as well:

1. A Fake List which is updated on every start of the client, revealing files as a fake and adjusting the symbol for the comment so that you get to know when you download a fake file

2. self updating IP-Filter DB

3. IP-2-Country which shows the country of all the clients and servers (not as much important as the 2 above)

2) is already implemented (Preferences -> Security Auto-update ipfilter at startup)

Some info regarding webcache:

Webcache will not be implemented. It's not about how hard it would be, other points were relevant for this decision and discussed several times here in the forums.

It's there (I think that you mean this), it's called 'Release Priority'.

You can do fake checks via jugle.net or donkey fakes on the files if you right click them. An automatic fake check would be nice but definitely putting such a heavy load on jugle.net's servers that this is just irresponsible.

Already answered, it's there.

Hmm, nice idea (although I don't really see any use for it), but it would be near to impossible with international ISP's...

The fake list in MorphXT isn't done via jugle. I know that it would be irresponsible to put such a heavy load on this sever. Both the Fake Check and the IP-2-Country features use text files for data, which are updated by the running clients itself.

For Fake check:

http://emulepawcio.sourceforge.net/nieuwe_site/Ipfilter_fakes/fakes.dat

I looked at the fakes.txt, bu i'm not sure what data it shows. The first value i think is the hash and the last is the description of the fake.  The valu between the hash and the desc i dunno.

For IP-2-Country:

and the version file for updating:

OK, the fake check looks interesting. The middle value seems to be the size of the file as you can find it in an ed2k link. Do you have any experience in how reliable this fake check is?

I let the IP-2-Country behind for a moment and focus on Fake Check first. I think thats more important

Since it's upadted at every start, it's very reliable. I used this featrue for 2 months now, and i haven't had any problems yet. I tested its functionality several times by downloading files, that were marked as a fake, and they really were fakes.
I think it's just useful to have this feature, bacause you see when you download a fake, so you don't waste bandwith.
And it's just great that the Txt File containing tha data is updated by the clients itself, you don't have to update the file manually you can just let it run ;)
What do you think?
