rc6 the holy grail
« on: February 13, 2005, 10:56:41 AM »

Once uptom a time, I was extremely happy with aMule 2.0.0rc6

It rarely, if ever crashed. It worked. All was good. Then one day I upgraded it to rc7. Then all of a sudden I daren't change any preferences in the GUI, because amule would crash.

Then I upgraded it to rc8 and then I daren't use the GUI at all, because amule would randomly crash.

Then I upgraded it to CVS, and now I daren't add a file via the webinterface, because the core intermittently crashes, I daren't swap A4AF sources in the GUI, change the preferences, cancel a file, we are seriously treading on eggshells whenever I go near it. I have to restart the webserver multiple times in a one hour period because it segfaults.

So, after a frustrating time, I have decided to go back to rc6. I can't find it anymore on the site. Does anyone have a link to the rc6 tarball?

Thanks

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=88225&package_id=92596

^^ there you go ;)

what else would be nice if you could provide backtraces for all the things amule crashes in cvs. ;) would be much more helpfull then using the old version :) since someday we are going to release 2.0 final and hte less bugs the better

boutros,

Stefanero is totaly right, you should help us find the problems, we are here to fix them. But anyway, this is up to you.

Have you tried a recent cvs tarball, after february 8th? There have been massive bug fixes since then. Yesterday lots of potential crashes have been fixed in amuleweb. And the development goes on, but the developers sure can't test all the possibilities.

Cheers!

webserver has improved a lot since RC6.

Your problems come from a faulty wx version/instalation, not from aMule, I'm afraid :) Give that you have crashes on preferences accept, and on gui, you have for sure a broken wxGTK.

haha ok I'll stick with CVS. Mine is up to date as of this morning. I'll clean up my wxGTK installation, but I'm fairly sure it's ok anyway.

I'll remove all traces of wx libraries and headers, reinstall and I'll let you know.

What version of wxGTK should I be using?

better a wx-cvs version, because they are close to release 2.5.4 anyway.

Well, I removed all traces of wxGTK from my box - libraries, header files, the lot - and installed the CVS version, and recompiled amule-cvs.

Now I can't seem to get it to crash

But that's wierd! AFAIK my wxGTK installation was a good one! I did a clean install of wxGTK before with rc6 and I haven't touched wxGTK since. Man I don't understand computers....

But amuleweb still segfaults  ;)

See, see, I told you it was wx :P

about amuleweb, please report backtraces. I'll look at it personally.
