Configuring amule

Hi i'm new to amule & linux and can't get used to compiling from source so downloaded the RPM package for amule, which appears to be running ok.

Now I need to configure it to allow for faster downloads and to enable quicker uploads and any other configuration that will help me get the most out of amule any info woud be welcomed.

Not being used to bandwiths & Capacities an idea of a good starting point would be helpful. They are currently set at bandwith limits 16kb download upload 4kb slot allocation 2

Line capacities 8kb Download upload 3 now this seems low but I don't know how the calculation is worked out inorder to change them.

Please give me some clues. :( :))

Line capacities is only used for the scale of the statistics graphs, you should set it to whatever your internet connection is capable in download / upload.

The bandwidth limits set the maximum for amule to upload or download. You should set your download limit quite high as it will rarely be maxed out (near to the maximum of your lines download speed). Upload is a bit different, you should leave some room here so that you can still surf the web while amule is running. If you have a possible upload (of your line) of 16 kB/s /thats kilobyte, which means 128 kilobit) you should set the upload limit to 10kB/s...

Slot allocation is used for uploading and decides how much bandwidth every upload gets. If you set your upload limit to 20kB/s and set a slot allocation of 4kB/s there will (normally) be 5 uploads of 4kB/s each.

I hope this made things a little clearer, if there are questions left feel free to ask.  :)

Depends on your desktop environment / window manager. I use KDE and just do a right click on the desktop, new - file - link to program (may not be called exactly like that, I use a localized KDE). There you have to add the path to the executable (use 'which amule' on a console to find out), a name and a description...

Just need a little more help please I go to create New File, link to Application.
I where it says link to application I type in the path ( /home/dad/.aMule and  click OK. it puts a link on the desktop and when I click on it I get this message.

Service '/home/dad/Desktop/home%2fdad%2f.aMule%2f.desktop' is malformatted.

I obviously need to be more specific with my paths but don't know what to do.

advice please :D

/home/user/.aMule is where the configuration is stored, not the binary. Take a console, enter 'which amule' and it will say something like this:

dude@server amule $ which amule
/usr/local/bin/amule
dude@server amule $  
and that is the 'path to application' you have to enter.

Ok a similar question to last. I want to link to the file my downloads are saved to and assumed that by typing in

/usr/local/bin/amule/Incoming that this would set up a link to that file but all it did was ask to overwrite the icon on the desktop so how do I link to that file assuming that Incoming is wher my downloads are saved??????

The default directory where amule saves its incoming files is /home//.aMule/Incoming/ but you can change this in preferences - directories...

As a sidenote: I assume english is your natural tongue (as you live in GB), so could you please start using , and . here and there in your sentences and maybe reread and rephrase your postings a little before submitting them? For nearly everybody on this forum english is a foreign language and even though I think my understanding of it is quite well I have to read your posts several times before I get a clue what you are talking about  ;) Thanks!

Hi! I entered that information in a terminal and got nowhere.

dad@linux:~> /home/dad/.aMule/Incoming
bash: /home/dad/.aMule/Incoming: is a directory
dad@linux:~>


I also tried creating a desktop icon using dad@linux:~> /home/dad/.aMule/Incoming
and just got a message relating to the amule link already on the desktop, do I want to over write file? This being my link file for amule, where am I going wrong?
