need some help with webserver
« on: May 19, 2005, 07:17:57 PM »

Well, i have started using linux about 3 months ago. I´m using kurumin linux. I installed it ( apt-get install amule ) and everything is working fine (i really enjoy amule  :D ) except my webserver. When i try to connect it (http://192.168.0.32:4712) the login window appears but i can´t login, i tried to change my password but it just doesn´t work. Can somebody explain for me how to change the password?

Yes i have read the Howto setup aMule´s webserver, but i can´t make it work because i´m really new in linux  :( and when i used emule on windows, the webserver worked fine.

huh? its
localhost or 192.168.0.32 :4711 for default.... not 4712!

where have you setup the webserver pass? in amule preferences ? or did you edit amule.conf?

well i have changed it to 4712, but now i changed back to 4711 and it still doesn't working.
I have set my pass in my amule.conf as it was told on the howto.
I trying to connect on http://192.168.0.32:4711 because that's the computer ip on the LAN, does it make difference between this and localhost:4711 ?

This is your problem. amule cannot listen to port 4712, some other program took it! Run:
$ netstat -ntualp | grep 4712

And paste the result here.

I think you are making a confusion. There are actually two ports:

4711: This is the default port used by the program amuleweb (the web server) to listen to incomming connections. Amuleweb is not automatically run, unless an option is explicitly set on preferences->Remote Controls. If you use a web browser on the same machine as amuleweb is beeing run, point it to http://localhost:4711;

4712: This is the default port used by the program amule (yes! our mule! :) ) to listen to external connection protocol (EC2). EC2 is the way aMule communicates with other applications, whatever they are. Currently, we have amuleweb, amulewebgui, amulecmd, amulecmdgui and amulegui, IIRC. All these apps, which are different from amule, use the EC port to communicate with amule or amuled (the aMule daemon), which should not be run at the same time as aMule.

Cheers!
Phoenix.

I´ll do this as soon as i get home...
other thing, the file amule.conf is where i have to change things right? or there is another file. Because i unistalled amule (apt-get remove amule) removed the path /.aMule and when i installed it again, my configurations where the same, so there must be another file, can somebody tell me where i find it?

and thanks for the explanation about the ports, now i understand it  :)

I have done what you said.

(Nem todos os processos puderam ser identificados, informações sobre processos
de outrem não serão mostrados, você deve ser root para vê-los todos.) ****
tcp        0      0 0.0.0.0:4712            0.0.0.0:*               OUÇA       2900/amule
tcp        0      0 127.0.0.1:33548         127.0.0.1:4712       ESTABELECIDA2903/amuleweb     *
tcp        0      0 127.0.0.1:4712          127.0.0.1:33548         ESTABELECIDA2900/amule           *

**** I'm from Brazil so my SO is in portuguese. Here is the translation to English:
Not all the process could be indentified, so some informations will not be show, you must be root to see all.
* Another thing ESTABELECIDA = STABILISHED

As you can see he told me to do it as a root, so i done it, but the results still the same.

I knew you were either brazilian or portuguese, because I am Brazilian myself :) But you have posted in an english forum, so we must use english here ;)
Quote
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:4712 0.0.0.0:* OUÇA 2900/amule
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:33548 127.0.0.1:4712 ESTABELECIDA2903/amuleweb *
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:4712 127.0.0.1:33548 ESTABELECIDA2900/amule *

The OS translation is fckn' stupid, I wonder who translated LISTEN to OUÇA, but anyway, lets go on... Your configuration seems fine. amule is listening on the port 4712. amuleweb is connected to amule on the same port. So there is no problem here.

Please, in spite of the system having told you to do as root (which the system did not do), avoid at all costs running aMule as root. Also, there is no need to run netstat as root, because the processes you want to look at have all been run by your user.

You see, this error message:
Quote
2005-05-19 14:49:17: Could not listen for external connections at 0.0.0.0:4712!
Is not consistent with the result of netstat that you posted. aMule seems to have had success in listening to port 4712, or else you would not have:
Quote
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:4712 0.0.0.0:* OUÇA 2900/amule

Did you point the browser to http://localhost:4712 and nothing happened?

Cheers!

I have some questions too
1) Is there another amule configuration file instead of amule.conf? (because as i have already said, i unistalled it and installed again but my configurations still the same, even when i deleted path /.aMule)
2) How do i start amuleweb?
3) What i have to do now that i have reinstalled it?

stormrider,

You must enter it in the amule preferences dialog: Preferences->Remote Controls.

But you can check it in the configuration file with this command:
$echo -n "myfucknpassword" | md5sum

Take a look at this thread:
http://www.amule.org/amule/thread.php?threadid=5392&sid=&hilight=md5sum

Also, yes, there is another configuration file, remote.conf, look at the thread above.

Cheers!
