Amule 2.0.2 using wxwidget?
« on: June 08, 2005, 11:57:04 PM »

Hi all,

First of all, I am new to aMule having switch from Emule and would like to congradulate all the developers here for such a great beast of an application. Works great and gets better as it progresses.

Anyway, this is not a compiling issue but would like to know:

I am running aMule 2.0.2 on ubuntu with wxwidget 2.5 and also running aMule 2.0.2 on fedora Core 3 with wxwidget 2.6 that i compiled from source. Both versions on the different Linux distro works fine. But out of curiousity, is there a difference running aMule under wxwidget 2.6 or 2.5?

Also, i really like Emule (but stop using it when i switched to Linux) and MLdonkey (a bit buggy) not for it's program but because they have an Ed2k link catcher where i can send links from a browser remotely to my machine running the program. After searching high and low, i understand there isn't such program but is someone developing one? I have thought about making such program but my programming skills are very basic. :(

I know that you can use the aMule web interface or aMulecmd for this purpose but a ED2K link catcher is so much more convenient.

It would be nice to see something like Mldonkey's one as it quite easy to configure. All you have to do is add a few lines to Firefox in the about:config to set it up and then whenever you visit a web page with links, you just need to click on it and the MLDonkey catches the link and adds the download. (here is the little utility: http://www.informatik.uni-oldenburg.de/~dyna/mldonkey/). I don't know why it currently has no support aMule. X(

Thank you,

L

Hey !thanks for that info.

But after reading 'Remotely handling links' section, i am still quite confuse as how it should be set up.

This is my understanding, please correct me if i am wrong (below is what i copied from the above weblink with my comments in italic):

You can also handle links remotely, which means that you click over an ed2k link in a browser somewhere in the world and it gets into your home's aMule queue.

How?

Easy enough: using aMuleCMD (thanks djtm for this tip). Instead of using the ed2k command, use the following as the command to use:

/path/to/amulecmd -rh $server -pw $pw -c "Add %u"

Obviously, you'll have to replace $server and $pw with your server's IP (or DNS) and your External Connections password.

Is this part is to be executed on the server running aMule?

Please note that the above tip is only available since aMule 2.0.0rc8.

No prob, i'm using 2.0.2

NOTE: In Konqueror, if after clicking OK on the security warning the link is still not being sent to aMule, just right-click on the ed2k link and tell Konqueror to open it in a new window/tab.

No worries, i'm only concerned with using FireFox

NOTE: In Firefox, it is not possible to start a command with parameters. An easy solution is a shell script with the command described above. You only have to replace %u with $1. This shell script must be executable (chmod +x ed2k.sh) and defined as external ed2k app in Firefox.

Now, i'm stuck... what do you do from here in order to send ed2k links from Firefox running on Windows and what do i put in the auto:config in FireFox???

Thank you for reading this post and i hope someone can help me out. :)
