connection filter/timer
« on: June 13, 2005, 11:49:52 PM »

Dear all,

bad as is may sound, I need to ask this question for economical reasons. For that I present my apologies, kindly requesting the admins to remove my post if it generates unhealthy discussion.

So, in the place where I live, the sole provider of broadband connections (yes, they do have the monopoly) limitates "International traffic" at a few GB, or even less, depending on how much you're willing to pay. That means, for my case, 2Gb of international down/uploads, from websites to p2p, even including connection attemps (meaning my mule program is off, or the computer is). Quite lame, especially considering the price per Mb after this limit.. The good thing is, from 1h to 7h GMT, all traffic is unlimited. Well, good at least in Europe, and if you don't mind sleeping with the computer on.

Now, I heard about an emule mod that had a filter and a timer, respectively disabling connections to and from international IPs during the day, and changing to an international server during the night. Well, I've heard some nasty comments about this type of behaviour on our part, and agree that it perverts the idea of emuling. But there's absolutely no way it could be otherwise, if you get a 200euro bill at the end of the month..

So I was wondering, is there some kind of contraption planned or existant for amule? I can't say I would program it, as my knowledge fails to reach that level.

Again, sorry for this type of question.. as attenuating fact, I'd like to point out that my computer is always on during the night, and sharing..

Regards,

guess I didn't scroll down far enough..

Many thanks for the answer; Yep, I'm living in Portugal. Is this the only place where the ISPs limit traffic? Telephone and electricity monopolization was rather annoying, but I wrote it off to the size of the place.. well, my roommate told me they also own the tv/net cables, so no wonder..
