Hail!
I have aMule running most of the time but usually I do not look into it for rather long time... People send me messages but I do not know about it when I do not check the program.
I would like to set some sort of "away message" that will appear after someone's message to me so that such person would be informed that I am not available and cannot answer at the moment.
I search all parts of aMule's Settings, but I did't find anything like that...
I also went through FAQ and Help, but still I came across nothig about this issue. Or maybe I am missed something...
Is there in aMule anything like "away message" or anything like that?

I am using at the moment aMule version 2.0.0rc7 installed from Debian Testing packages.

Sorry for my English, it might be a bit rough but after all it's not my native and I may only try to do my best... Greetingz.

well there is no such away msg in aMule....and I dont know if this is a really usefull feature, since Mule is not a chat clients, its a p2p programm...
also I dont think most msg you get, the other way wants a response, mostly is spam....

Well, I cannot concur.
First... in DC clients there is possilbility to set "away message" and DC is also p2p. It doesn't matter what kind of program it is - if there is an option to talk and exchanging information, it is also logical thing to be an option to show that someone's not available to answer. Just to be kind to other users... but not only fot that.
Second thing is that most of messages I get is no spam: pepole asks about friendly slots, about version of file, quality, language, especially if it is something really rare... etc., etc. Sometimes everyone would like to know something and many files has no comments, stupid comments [for. ex. I've found comments in spanish, that translated looked like: "this it bitch 'cause not in spanish" and I must say that this "comments-option-thing" very often looks for me quite useless] or just no indictation of what precisely they are.
It doesn't mean that I think that "awamy-msg" is something most important for program or sth like that - I just think over it and it just would be quite nice thing.

But in fact I've got an answer to my question - I only wanted to know for sure if there is or isn't such thing in aMule. Thanks :)

I actually use the chat feature quite a lot but I'm not sure how much sense an away message would make. Isn't "away"  the default mode? Whenever I send a message to somebody I don't expect them to reply immediately b/c most people have their computer running 24/7 but only spend a fraction of that time actually in front of the machine.

On the other hand, what I would really like to have is a better notification for incoming messages. Most of the time amule is just running minimized in the background here and I check on it every couple of hours. So frequently when I get a message I don't notice this until a few hours later and when I reply then the other person is already afk. A couple hours later the other person replies but then it takes me again some time to realize that I got a message... you get the picture... ;)

There is an interesting notification right now, but only works if you can see your amule screen ;)

Kry, it seems like the handy new notification system is not present or working anymore in current cvs (eg, rev 5775). IIRC it was still working fine 2 weeks ago or so.

maybe some sign in the traybar-icon (or whatever it is called) after a message arrived would be handy.
at least as long as it is not some blinking/rotating stuff...

who spams receives a message in reply for each message sent, and they send a LOT of messages

I like the idea. E-Mail Spam has fake senders, p2p-message-spam has not.
But I don't like the think of an genrall away message, I would prefer an filter option like "if this pattern is matched, ignore and send a go away message".

We already have a "ignore", now I don't agree (as I said) sending any kind of message. They can just filter them anyway, so it's not that much of a good thing, and I don't want anyway to counter spam with more spam.

I have to agree with Kry, I think trying to retaliate with spam is a retarded idea. Those spam clients probably filter out any message they get anyway. So in my opinion this would just be a waste of developer resources.

With the message filter feature we already have a decent system for dealing with these clients. When every 4 weeks a new type of spam message appears it takes about 20 secs to add an appropriate keyword to the list of filter terms. Then you are all set again for another month. This doesn't look to me like a situation that is in desperate need of improvement.


EDIT:
The only thing that could be improved imho is to not add the "new message from..." message to the "status bar" when the message is actually filered.
