Query server manually
« on: August 25, 2005, 03:27:55 PM »

Just another little feature i'd like to see in aMule :
When it takes too long for a particular file to get sources it should be possible to query the server manually for new sources such as it's the case in some emule mods.

Hmm, I doubt this will be implemented. Why? Because the abuse potential is very high (and believe me, a function like this will be abused in 98% of all cases) and very little gain. All you need is some patience and amule will ask the server for sources on its own. And as patience is already a key component of the ed2k network this shouldn't be too hard to do ;)

well I think its not a bad feature, maybe with some timestamp you could enable it or something, say

if file dl 2h and sources 0 --> enable the feature....
since we have some reports from poeple getting no sources at all...even after 1day of running the mule

The fact is that lugdunum servers, which is standard for the big ed2k servers,  already ban clients making too many request. The potential for abuse is thus very small it seems.

I like the feature because it enables you to get a file much faster when you need it. Very usefull for files that have few sources or are available on clients from only one server.

I still see only potential for abuse and no real use for that.
And before we add this as an ugly manual workaround for a bug it would be better to search and eliminate the cause of the bug ;)

What for? aMule already polls all servers for sources.
