Can't connect on OSX
« on: September 18, 2005, 03:54:20 AM »

I can't seem to connect to any servers on Mac OSX (10.3.9).  I don't have the Mac firewall turned on, and I don't connect to a router (only directly to my cable modem).  If I connect a Windows PC with eMule installed to the same ethernet jack, I can connect to servers (eg. Sonny Boy 1).  I also tried bringing the Mac into my work to see if somehow my cable modem was the problem, but I still had the same connection problems.

Can anyone offer me any hints?  I'm fairly new to the Mac and aMule, but have been using eMule for years on my PC.

Thanks guys

What error message do you get when trying to connect? Maybe you tried connecting to fake servers / servers that don't exist any more?

BigHands, are there messages in the log explaining the problem in some more detail?  How about console.log (run /Applications/Utilities/Console.app)?

We don't have many specifics to go on.

By the way, the Sonny Boy servers are fake servers.  Don't connect to those.

hi!

i got exactly the same problem on my new mac (os x tiger). i am using a cable modem which works fine with a windows pc. my osx-firewall is also not activated.

all amule says is "timed out".
it looks like this:
2005-10-03 13:30:12: Connection attempt to pr0nMaSter 1 (199.249.181.10:4661) timed out.
2005-10-03 13:30:12: Servers: Trying to connect
2005-10-03 13:30:12: Connecting to .>|<. slashBud .>|<. (216.156.142.15 - 216.156.142.15:0)
2005-10-03 13:30:37: Connection attempt to eHorse2000 (216.156.142.13:4661) timed out.
2005-10-03 13:30:37: Servers: Trying to connect
2005-10-03 13:30:37: Connecting to eMulerack 2 (63.217.27.7 - 63.217.27.7:0)

the only server i can connect to is:
LH
IP: 84.184.94.103
port: 50135
( ed2k://|server|84.184.94.103|50135| )
and at version it says: 17.7 (lugdunum)

btw under kad info it says "running" but status is "disconnected"
i was just wondering what kad or kadmelia exactly is... ;-)

I think the problem is probably that your server.met has lots of dead servers.  aMule tries them in more or less random order, timing out for each dead one, and then proceeding to the next.  If you leave it for long enough, it will eventually find ones which are alive and use those.

Which URL are you using for your server.met?  The gruk.org one?  That one should have mostly good servers.
