Linux freezes when calculating md4
« on: September 22, 2005, 08:39:36 AM »

I recently added some mpeg files i ripped from a dvd to my shared folder and
now each time i start amule it indexes a couple of these new files and then
freezes the whole system (ie. dead mouse, keyboard etc).
I am running aMule 2.0.3 on Debian Sid with kernel 2.6.12. The shared folder is
located on an nfs-shared XFS partition on top of an 2 disk LVM volume.

Any clues on how to debug this?

A good starting point would be to get the NFS out of the way as I have experienced problems with NFS when dealing with accessing many small files over NFS. Copy the files to a local harddisk and see if you can hash them.

Yes,  I have amule running on the nfs server, so the files really are local
to the program. I suspect it might be a filesystem issue or maybe a defect ram chip.

Yep,  a hardware problem seems likely since i have managed to crash the pc a couple of times
now running memtest. Thanks for the input.
