refuse downloading incomplete files

I have seen it too often. Some guy keeps a file ready for upload and can see in the stats how much  is uploaded. When 95% is complete he removes the file. Now after a month or so 100 people have 95% and the file is never completed. :evil:

So I thought it would be nice if amule would have the option to only start downloading a file if it has seen all parts.  :roll:

What if the guy suddenly returns with the full file ?

Yes, amule should allow to start downloading a file even if it is not complete because this can change during the next weeks. This is especially true for rare files where guys don't always stay on amule 24/24.

Maybe we should have something to let us know for example that a file has not been complete on the network for the entire last week ? This would need lots of more statistics.

Only then you start downloading.

Nope. Don't download files that are not complete. It's very simple.

This is exactly what the dmca is looking for. A weak spot in the protocol. To save cycles kazaa only checksummed the first few kb of a file. Quite easy. Keep that intact and break the rest. Now 50% of all files on kazaa are broken. Downloading incomplete files is the weak spot for *Mule.

Doesn't this go against one of the strengths of Emule?

That once you start to download a file, you then become a source..?

Of course not. 95% of the files are complete. You should also only allow an upload if you can download a complete file. Not if you have a complete file.

Sounds like a real bull(shit) proposal. What about releasers who use modded versions of emule to speed up initial file spreading? (Some mods only let each user see 1 different part at a time until the file is spread).

Plus , some ppl are not online 24/7 , so while the main source is offline you should still be able to download the file from the partial sources.

You don't want to be like Kazaa user? Go to forums/websites where each hash is verified(I don't want to link in this forum , but there are plenty).
If you just use the search feature and download the 1st file you see , well , it's your problem.
