download speed settings

hi there!! I'm a new mac user and I've just download amule...
I know, I might sound silly to you, but I don't know how to set the connection...
I put 1000 and 800 k/sec for download and upload respectively because I have a 1 M ntl connection...but the download is so slow...can someone tell a poor ignorant like me which download and upload limits I have to set in the connection window?

Here's the deal: connection speeds are typically specified in kilobits per second while aMule's up- & down limits are specified in kilobytes per second. Since 8 bits = 1 byte, you have to divide the line limits stated by your provider by 8 to get the limits in kilobytes per second.

Note: to make sure that aMule does not clog your line, set your up-limit 3-5k/s lower than your line limit.

What lionel77 surely meant to say is "8 bits = 1 byte".  ;)
