Features the daemon could use
« on: November 19, 2005, 03:18:48 PM »

Gentlemen developers, first of all, although I have said it before: Great job on this project! Keep it up!

Since I mainly (actually, only) use the daemon in it's detached form there are some things I would like to see added to it, which are standard in the monolith:
- Deletion of failed servers. Currently the daemon does not do this, the server.met file just keeps on expanding.
- Flushing of the logs. When using the daemon in detached mode you have no more logging of events, nor any server details.
- Showing of statistics on KAD. It seems that the daemon, or amuleGUI as I can't tell the difference for this question, does not register KAD statistics such as number of active nodes.
- When retrieving the shared files list via the daemon (using web or GUI) one can easily make a pot of coffee, where retrieving it in the monolith is instantanious. Can this difference be explained, and preferably be alleviated?
- Using friends slots. Does the daemon support this or not, I can't figure it out, but I tend to lean to "not".

On amuleGUI:
- To show all sources for a file by doubleclicking the download bar, like in the monolith, would be a great improvement.

And for the webserver I also have a request or two:
- Searching the KAD network via the webserver. Currently the template only support "local" and "global".
- Scaling of the statistics graphs like in the monolith, or amuleGUI.
- Sorting of the downloads, but this might be a simple template bug.

There might be actions on some of this already, it's just a wishlist from my side. Thanks in advance for everything.

Works same way as in monolitic amule

It's working IMHO (last time I checked)

Showing of statistics on KAD
Amuleweb already shows this (on KAD page)

When retrieving the shared files list via the daemon ....
Only true for a first time you opening "Shared files" page. The problem is quite a size of information that needs to be copied from daemon. More files with longer filenames you have - more time it will take. After first time only changes in list are sent, so you result match quicker.

Searching the KAD network via the webserver
PHP code is already added, Only need to update template (will do it soon).

Scaling of the statistics graphs like in the monolith
Amuleweb shows graph in same scale as monolitic. You can't resize png image like you resize window. That's a limitation of webserver as a concept.

Sorting of the downloads
Should work. If you think it's not - point to specific template and explain problem in detail.

Thank you for your comments

I'm afraid I have to disagree on this, because after running the daemon for weeks, there has been 0 deleted servers. I fired up the monolith for some testing today, and immediately it deleted 88 servers. There must be a difference somewhere.

Again I have to disagree on this, the only line I get from the logfile is this:
[blabla@bla .aMule]$ cat logfile
2005-11-19 16:07:44: Credit file loaded, 3139 clients are known
[blabla@bla .aMule]$

It has been a  while since had a chance to look at all this, but just now I have compiled todays CVS (20051126) and I have to say:

Sorting of the downloads
Should work. If you think it's not - point to specific template and explain problem in detail.
It seems that this indeed works now, for the downloads. On the downloads page the sorting of "completed" and "transferred" seems a bit bugged though: If I have 3 downloads it does put the files in descending order, but for the ascending it's almost like it misses one file.

Also there seems to be one sorting which does not work at all yet: The "total transferred" on the shared files page (shared.php). It does sort something, since it changes the order of files, but the sorting is definately not on total transferred bytes.

Then one last thing, which might be an interesting one: The webserver template looks normal when viewed with Firefox, however with Internet Exploder I get this view. It's not pretty.

But on all other accounts, you guys are doing a great job on the development here.

Well, just thought I had to finish this one off: It seems the webserver now does all it can do, thanks for this!

What about...
- view/insert comments
- different colors for shared and downloaded files in search
- fake check during search

Thank you for everything: in the latest CVS amuled and amuleweb are fantastic! :)
Bye,
Darkbasic.

P.S.
Sorry for my bad english.
