Cant Connect Whats up with server list?
« on: December 14, 2005, 07:01:53 PM »

Im running amule on Ubuntu, I just installed it and first thing was I had no server file so I tried downloading one, after some time it just told me it could not download it without any other reason, I tried another one and the same and another one and the same. So then I just downloaded a server list myself and placed it in the directory and everything NOW the servers appear but I cannot connect to any of the servers they all time out. Now my conection is very shitty, Its through LAN meaning I do not have an actual IP address and at the same time I have no control over the configuration of the router/server/firewall or whatever. But still I have been able to connect before to the edonkey network with a lowID but still able to connect so I do not suppose this is a problem. I saw in some forum a problem exactly as mine but then the guy just solved the problem himself and didnt mind posting about it. Any help would be very appreciated. THanks.

servers usually limit the number of lowID users, maybe that's the issue.

Regards.

They are not rejecting me, the connection when trying to connect is timed out besides I have lists of 200 servers and ALL of them timed out, it would be pretty unusual that each and every one of those servers have reached the limit of lowID users besides if the servers would reject me they would tell me connection rejected or something like that and not timed out, wouldnt they?

You're probably being filtered ED2K on your "I-have-no-access-to-router" configuration.

But I have been able to connect to the edonkey network before with a lowId except it was with emule. I connected from this same computer and from exactly the same place but with the windows partition I had using emule.

Ok, So i aksed a friend to lend me her computer with windows, installed emule and got connected in my flat and I can connect perfectly with lowID. I reformated my computer thats why i didnt use my windows partition anymore. I installed Fedora Core 4 now and installed amule AND HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AS BEFORE. I had to download the server.met file manually being that amule could not get it even from different webpages and now that I got it manually I still cannot connect to any server, all of them time out. Any help here would really really be of use.

At the command line, can you connect to a server using "telnet".  For example, Razorback is at 195.245.244.243, port 4661.  So the command to try is "telnet 195.245.244.243 4661".  Here's the output I got from a successful connection:

Code: [Select]
% telnet 195.245.244.243 4661
Trying 195.245.244.243...
Connected to raz2-0.razorback2.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
Here, I typed the escape character ^] (control-]), so I could give the "quit" command at the telnet prompt.
Code: [Select]
^]
telnet> quit
Connection closed.
%

This way you can try to eliminate aMule as a cause of the connection failure.  I suspect you won't, in fact, get a successful connection with telnet.  If you don't, it means there's a firewall or router configuration problem.

Thanks for the tip,  good thinking.
Now to another problem then, I  did get a connection.
I got the following when connecting to donkeyserver no2

$ telnet 62.241.53.16 4242
Trying 62.241.53.16...
Connected to 62.241.53.16 (62.241.53.16).
Escape character is '^]'.

So I guess this means it is amule.

Hmm.  Strange.

Do you have any ipfilter.dat (or ipfilter_static.dat) in your ~/.aMule directory?

Does your connection have a really large latency?  What I mean is, does it take a long time for telnet to connect to DonkeyServer No 2?  aMule has a pretty short timeout when connecting to servers, while telnet's is pretty long.  If it's taking a long time to connect, then telnet might succeed where aMule gives up.

I have the same problem.

I had used aMule with Ubuntu 5.04 without any problems and with HighID. I upgraded to Ubuntu 5.10 some time ago and decided to install aMule today.

After looking for the server.met url I always use and downloading the servers list, I noticed that I can't connect to almost any server. When I try to do so I usually get a timeout message. I managed to connect to a server after some time, but they're servers with few people and not many files. For example, I'm currently connected to HHSchnelsen RasierterEsel.de.

I don't have any firewall (does Ubuntu have any?) and my router and interface are configured as always.

I don't know what to do....

It might be an issue with the version of wxWidgets you have.  I'm running out of ideas.  :(

well so far about the telnet timout question from before, its pretty quick, I really dont think it has to do with that being that emule takes more time while timing out than the console conecting through telnet.

about wxwidgets, all i know is I have version  2.4.2-12 installed but aside from that im not really sure about how to play with it.

same problem here with Mac OS X version 2.1.3
all the servers goes timeout
telnet connexion works fine, and pretty quick.

But sometimes amule works. I would say 1 times on 5. Without changing anything on the configuration.
No router, no firewall, just a ethernet dsl connexion

I have this problem for a few day. It was working fine before.

I did two things, which are probably redundant, but I wanted to ensure that the eMule ports were enabled. I opened them using the command iptables and I installed Firestart to enable the traffic through these ports.

It worked fine...
