download & unpacking
« on: January 03, 2006, 02:57:53 PM »

Hi,
I had problems with my aMule 2.0.3 version so I replaced it with the new 2.1.0version, not the tiger-only one but it didn't work at all. I couldn't connect to any servers. Then I found the tiger-only version, tried to install that but it didn't even unpack the .zip- data. Could it be that it's damaged or something? I'd be very thankful for any suggestion or information!

plz no double posting...

why dont you try to redownload and find it out?

btw about the "I cant connect to servers" this could also be a firewall issue, not a problem with the Mac-binary

On Saturday 7 January I downloaded from both sites and neither would unzip. The Stuffit screen asserted that it was unzipping but nothing appeared on the desktop nor does Spotlight show any 'amule' other than the zip file.

Oh dear, what am I doing wrong?

Maybe there is an issue with StuffIt. Try the following:
Locate the zip-archive (it might be in your Trash folder if it's not on your Desktop).
Control-click the zip-archive and do "Open with -> BOMArchiverHelper". That results in the archive being unpacked by OS X's build-in unzip engine.

Hope this helps. :)

Yes, doing what lionel77 suggests should help.  After that, you might look into upgrading your StuffIt.  I think it's probably very out of date.

Lionel77's suggestion worked. The Stuffit was downloaded after I bought the machine on 14 December so I think it is current. Ah well, one of those mysteries of life with computers.

I'm glad it worked for you. I have a bad feeling that Allume dropped the ball again with StuffIt 10 (anybody remember 8.0.0, which screwed up permissions in sit archives?).

To avoid future problems with zip files, you can make the built-in unzip engine the default for zip files:
Locate any zip file and do a "Get Info" on the file (apple+i). In the "Open with" section of the GetInfo dialog choose the "BOMArchiveHelper" from the list and click on the "Change all" button.
