slow mule and slow surfing the web
« on: February 01, 2006, 11:24:23 PM »

I have a 4 Mb/s adsl connection and I'm behind a router correctly set (port forwarding and etc-.).
amule 2.1.0 download at very ridiculous speed (max 10 kb/s) and surfing the web is very impossible with amule started (when I close amule, I can surf the web at normal speed). I setted upload speed to 24 and then to 20, I also setted max connection to 80, but with no results. I have about 30 files in download. Also, amule start with above 2000 found sources, but after some minutes, thare are only 200-300!!!
is my router (aethra starbridge eu) dying?
thanks

Your router firmware can be buggy. NAT table overflow is quite common thing to happen.

sorry, it was my fault!  :]
so, I upgraded to amule 2.1.0: for about a month worked great (uhmmm...great is a big word...with every version of amule I had a 1:1 transfer rate!!! I think because my router is not so good), but it's about a week that I download at ridiculous speed, and I'm not running any other p2p apps at the same time. I post my connection settings:
Max sources per File: 300
Connection Limits: 80
(in advanced settings) Max new connections / 5 secs: 70
(in advanced settings) File Buffer size: 105000 bytes
(in advanced settings) upload queue size: 10000 clients

many thanks

Sorry, but p2p filtering, or as it is sometimes called "retaining quality of service", is common practise nowadays. There are many vendors of crap to do this task, such as Sandvine, Ellacoya, Redback, nCube (C-Cor) and who knows what else.

The only way to get out of this is to change ISP, and hope your new one does not employ such practices. Otherwise, your up- and downloads will most likely not exceed 10 kB/s anymore, in total, ever.

Or appeal to court of law. Provider must state such practice in written agreement.
