Cannot connect to server - only as root!?
« on: March 06, 2006, 01:49:29 PM »

1. I can only connect to a server when I run aMule as root - otherwise I get a "Connection lost" on all servers. Has anyone got an idea why this is so?

2. I've disabled my firewall for testing purposes; when I enable it I get the message "Port 4662 is not available!", even as root, although I have opened the port in the config tool YaST. Have I missed something?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

about the susefirewall -> http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/Firewall_SuSE

and about the 1st problem, do you try different server from root and your user? maybe the once you try are offline...but it would be really strange if root could connect and the user is not allowed..

In its default setup, Windows XP on the Internet amounts to a car
parked in a bad part of town, with the doors unlocked, the key in
the ignition and a Post-It note on the dashboard saying, "Please
don't steal this."

There is some other program running on your computer which is using port 4662.  You can't have two programs using a given port at the same time

I compiled aMule from source (my previous installation was from an RPM file) and everything works fine now. Thanks for your help!
