aMule wont connent to server
« on: May 09, 2006, 11:32:59 PM »

Hi can anyone help., Ive recently just upgraded to Osx Tiger running on one of the new core duo Imacs, Ive installed the new universal binary Amule 2.1.1, which on open shows a slightly out of whack server connection screen, when I go to connect or add servers to the blank listing Amule locks up just hangs in space as if Ive not even clicked. Im using the http that it defaulted to which is http://ocbmaurice.dyns.net/pl/slist.pl?download/server-best.met, however Ive also tried the version that worked on my old G4Imac (also running tiger), which was http://www.svr1000.com/azz/server.met (and checked all my old settings within Amule) this option does give me a listing of servers, but again wont connect.

Can anyone help, please as its driving me nuts trying to figure out whats wrong.

Thank you

  ;(

have you checked the sticky thread in the macos forum with the hostname? maybe this helps

also please use the latest version of aMule since in the server communication some things changed so old amule might not work anymore

so when you use wlan you have to have some router to connect to right?

in your router manuall there should be an example of portforwarding, often also called NAT, or virtuell server

most often they explain it with webservers so tcp and port 80.
check your manual for that and adjust this port 80 and tcp to your amule ports

default for amule is

4662 tcp
4665 udp
4672 udp

Sorry (you must think Im thick)

Whats wlan?- I dont see any reference to  wlan on my settings, whats a router? (I connect through Ethernet ASDN is this it?) although the settings on that are ones that are copied from my G4Imac, which had a fully working version of Amule on with no problems.

Confused?

I dont have a manual for my ethernet (if this is a router) was given to me by a friend, all its settings worked fine on my last Mac (G4), and had no probs connection.

I'll check all my settings this evening for anything that looks like portforwarding, NAT, or virtuell server.

Fingers crossed :-)

thanks

Hi just checked all my ethernet settings and I cant see anything like what you have mentioned, no port forwarding etc.

my settings are

Builtin Ethernet
Configure IPv4 - Using DHCP
IP address --------
Subnet Mask ---.---.---.---
Router 86.29.30.175  (is this what Id change? or would this affect my internet settings)

DNS Servers - blank
Search domains - blank

IPv6 address fe80:---0:0000:0000:0000:000 blah etc.

Does any of this look like it might need changing to you?

Thanks

hmm ok the router looks like a offical IP address, so you should have one aswell...

I know to little about macOS to tell you where to look for your firewall but maybe you can ask google or a friend where the macOS firewall is

another thing: can you post a little of the amule log here when it starts?

does it say : cannot connect to server, or connection timed out? what does it tell in the log

Hi,

Theres nobody I can ask as Im the most proficient with setting up a mac out of everyone I know - and the people I work with are all pc based. Ive checked on google and set up an allowance to accept the amule ports in the firewall settings, which werent set, and restarted, but still not joy - getting axactly the same message.

Heres the amule connection log - no matter which server I try I get the same message:

2006-05-12 19:31:15: Servers: Trying to connect
2006-05-12 19:31:15: Connecting to Byte Devils (194.213.0.30 - 194.213.0.30:25)
2006-05-12 19:31:15: Connected to Byte Devils (194.213.0.30:3306)
2006-05-12 19:31:15: Lost connection to Byte Devils (194.213.0.30:3306)
2006-05-12 19:31:15: Connection lost

maybe I should just wait for a software update and hope for the best :-/

Waiting will surelly not work, as I can guaranty that the problem is not in aMule itself. Try to figure out what is going on.

My first suggestion is: with aMule running, try to run this script to see if you are firewalled:
http://www.amule.org/testport.php

My second suggestion is to try to find other servers, preferably a non-fake running server. You will have to google for that. Try to find a good server.met file. I have checked the IP of your Byte Devils, and it matches with the one I have in my server.met. In some cases, when the server is too full, it might happen that it will drop connections like this.

Cheers!

Hi thanks for the reply I ran the script and got the following :

 Detailed Error Message
TCP Error 110 Connection refused

Explanation
The connection timed out, meaning the port is being blocked or incorrectly forwarded by a firewall or your computer is turned off :)

Ive check my firewall and Ive got it set to allow access to ED2K on the ports specified in the Amule connection settings. I will try the other suggestion, and let you know how I get on.

Thanks
