connecting to Kademlia
« on: July 18, 2006, 02:39:05 PM »

I'm using OS X 10.4.7
TCP port test passed
I've connect to a ED2K server and got a high ID, but the status of Kad network is still firewalled
There is no results when I use Kad search.
Is there any way to solve this problem?

Unfortunately not based on the information you give here. There are 2 basic options:
- You have not checked the Kad to connect in the preferences menu.
- You have either a firewall on the Mac or a router on your network that does not allow UDP traffic.

The very least it would be a good idea to know what your log file states, is there anything in there about a Kad connection? Perhaps like "Kad firewalled" or "Kad disconnected"? This might give some more idea where to look for the problem.

The Kad option in "preference" is checked.
I opened 1 TCP port and 2 UDP port as required, and set up port forwarding in my d-link router.
Also, I added 2 allowed rule in firewall setting of Mac to allow the 3 ports above.
In the log, Kad is initially "off" and changed to be "firewalled" after I started download some files.

Is there any other information that I should be careful to solve this?

maybe try to update your nodes.dat, there is a download button

it is in kad-tab on the network-tab

I have exactly the same problem. KAD was always working fine. Since a few days it's disconnected. When I start a ED2K download it's changing to firewalled. I'm not behind a router or firewall and tried  to refresh the nodes.dat. The funny thing is, it was working a few days ago, and I didn't change anything. High ID with ED2K ...

Are there any external circumstances that can change the KAD status? Thanks for your support!

I've tried that, but this method is not working.

A weird thing is, I tried to start downloading a randomly selected file and to wait for couple hours.
The Kad network was working then.

Here are some message in the log file:

Hmm, I think this log file is too short, I would like to see what happens after like 15-30 minutes of runtime. Especially since I don't see any "firewalled" mentioning. Also, include some log from after (like at least 15 minutes) when you have clicked "bootstrap from known clients", this might give a clue whether Kad even tries to connect.

However, having said that, it might be your provider blocking UDP traffice on the standard ports. Try changing the ports to use 5xxx instead of 4xxx. Obviously you have to change your firewall and router settings as well, but this might make a difference if your provider uses some sort of traffic shaping device.

Ok this worked for me: I did a complete reinstall (even with config). Now it works again. Though it takes much longer for the status to change to connected. Sometimes 10 min, which sucks. and i lost my credits. It can only be caused by a server or mac osx problem imho.

kad has no servers, so its probably mac osx :P

and that kad takes a while especially in the first runs to turn "ok" is pretty normal. it also happens with emule.

in the kad network you need 2-3clients in your "neighbourhood" which connect to you , and check if your open or closed. and this can take a while, even 10min or an houre.

if you run aMule more often you get "known" to the network, so after 2-3runs it should be "ok" after a couple of secs

I appreciate all help from other users here.

I ran amule for about 1 day and tried downloading some files.

The Kad network is running fine now.
