p2p sharing is SO great!
« on: October 18, 2006, 09:10:28 PM »

You know it all, but I have to say it:

Loading 200 interresting files with 200 KiB/s (with linux/amule of course) is SO great !

The (nearly) whole world in the net. Just fantastic.

EDIT: Huh, now it's 284 KiB/s :)

EDIT: Screenshot attached ;)

Don't kid yourself buddy p2p as in mainstream over ED2K is actually very slow. Now I love to share with the community as way of giving back. But I miss the old days where it was direct user to user and was much faster back then in the days of napster, aimster, ect. This form of sharing is still done on iRN in BlackNET's but using Fservs. With the swarm networks and partial sharing it may look good but actually slows down the user and takes long to download. Now I share in good upload speed but when I try to download off any ed2k clients never worked for me always stalled and so slow I actually cancel it. Only reason I am even sharing is so if we have enough just maybe it will make a difference. In my opinion we should have a GLOBAL credit score which will make sure the users who downloads and share very little to none is punished. Good for nothing piece fo shit leechers like that have ruined everything for rest of us all and shouldn't be allowed to download anything.

PS: Is that 200kb/s? or 200kB/s?

Actually. p2p (specially aMule/ED2K) can be quite fast if you download M$-approved material (read: Windoze and Windoze apps) but quite slow if you try to download Linux/Mac OS's or apps (this also applies for sharing/uploading)

Try downloading the latest Ubuntu desktop CD...or any other popular distribution.

Well I am not saying ED2K/Kad is bad but I am talking mainstream downloading it is very slow. Even when 500+ source trust me my upload raito is not even funny. Check my aMule stats I just started sharing on aMule like on June 1st. Sawrming networks will never be fast on ED2K for one reason cuz of the no fixed upload rates slot. In other hand it would be must faster to share let say with small users and setup global cridet system other than local user to user.

This may look good and make sure availability of smaller chunks gets passed around but takes way way way way wayyyyyyyyyyyy to long some time I just cancle and feel like stop sharing at all. I give and give when I need something I never get it but I never stop giving.

I still do not follow your logic and understand why would you want to download anything like a distro off ED2K? you can just download it at very fast speed from local repository. cURL 2-3 session at once and you will be done under 10min. When I was talking about downloading files I was talking about LEGAL music, movies, softwares ;)
