.emule file
« on: July 28, 2004, 10:56:40 PM »

Hi!

This is not a bug...it's more a feature request, or something. It just happens I dislike seeing this .emule file around...it could be possible to move it intoe the .aMule folder? also, it would be nice if it had another name, maybe .preferences, or something, but naming it .emule...I just don't know.

Regards, and sorry to bother with such a little annoyance.

i read not-too-much-ago on irc channel that it's meant to be that way because it's somehow hardcoded into wx in someway. I didn't really understand the problem, but the idea is that it cannot be changed :-(
I think it was phoenix who asked on irc, so maybe he can tell better than i ;)
Greetings!

skolnick and Jacobo221,

I was discussing this with Hetfield the other day, and noone could tell a reason why this file is even called .eMule. In my opinion, it could certainly be moved to ~/.aMule, and even renamed to ~/.aMule/aMule.ini or something like that.

Cheers!

I believe the theory of this filename being hardcoded into WXstuff is not very believable...(is that word right?) because, why on earth would WXstuff want to have such a filename hardcoded? even if it is, then the source code of WXstuff is freely available, it would be just a matter of releasing a patch correcting the bug, isn't it? also...I _really_ like the ~/.aMule/aMule.ini name...it sounds really like what it should have been since the beginning of times...

Regards.

skolnick: I didn't mean it was hardcoded into wx right there ;-) I said I read at the IRC (from phoenix's and Het's discussion) that it was somehow hardcoded into wx int the sense that some object or fcuntion or whatever that threated with it had it hardocded, from aMule's side, of course /why whould wx have any "eMule" text in it?? hehe). But, as I said above, i didn't really understand what the problem was because I wasn't really following the dicussion, I was just reading from time to time :-P

phoenix: what I understood from Het is that it is not changable... again, I was reading from-time-to-time, so maybe I didn't get quite what he was really saying. I'll be checking the irc log later!

Greetgins!

Well here is the paste:

Jul 26 13:26:59 <_pho3n1x> Hetfield, isnt this a compatibility issue? I sincerel
y dont know why we even call it .eMule...
Jul 26 13:27:09 iirc
Jul 26 13:27:22 there was a problem with renaming eMule string soemthere
Jul 26 13:27:28 in theApp something

[...]

Jul 26 13:27:34 don't remember why....
Jul 26 13:27:37 but
Jul 26 13:27:46 that's and external file

[...]

Jul 26 13:27:58 so i guess that's no problem moving and renaming it

So ye, after all, it seems like there's no problem in changing it's name and taking it into ~/.aMule, which would be fine to me (more order on my home directory) :-)

OK, so it seems it's posible to do the renaming...well, I would really like to see it done in 2.0.0 final release. I would do it by myself and then send the patch...but I'm not very proficient using C++ (pretty better with java) so I might introduce some nasty bugs ;)

Regards.
