worst performance when more time running?
« on: September 12, 2004, 11:52:04 PM »

hi

i'm now using amule 2.0.0 rc5 on suse linux 9.0

it seems that when you have the program running many time it downloads slower...

i'm going to explain it:
when you open for the first time the program it looks for fonts, and when it gets its turn then the downloads begin, but when it's running many time (it should be better..) it seems that it doesn't check if its turn to download has arrived.. (i don't know if the client has to do this task, or it's done by the "owner" of the queue)

so, i've noticed that at this point (the program has been running for a few hours) you download faster if you turn off and re-run it..

is it possible? (sorry but i can't give you more details about it)

regards :D

I had the same problem with rc5. I think your problem is related to this:
http://www.amule.org/amule/thread.php?threadid=3396&sid=&hilight=many+connections

The good news is that aMule-cvs seems to have solved this problem. I have been using it for 3 or 4 days and the download speed is very good!!! (20KB average on a 256Kbps DSL).

try amule-cvs.

I'd say it's just coincidence. It is true there are mem-leaks and that the longer it is up, the more memmory it uses, but about traffic, I've never had the problem you report and, what's more, noone has reported such problem ;-)
So I very much doubt it is a real fact, I bet on chances.

Actually, the same seems to happen to me. It seems that speed gradually increases at first and after a couple of hours it seriously decreases from like 20-30KB/s to 5-10KB/s. and as time passes, it seems aMule is reporting the wrong total upload speed.

as you can see jacobo221 i'm not the only one who is having this problem ;)

i hope this can be solved quickly, but obviously it's difficult without knowing why it happens :(

thx for posting and regards :D

ye, well, since this are strange situations, further information will be appreciated. That's not enoguh since it's not happening here or almost anywhere else (atleast that we know of). If you happen to know something more, please report :-)

hi

i don't know if it's important, but i've remembered that long time ago i activated the option for "download firstable the first and last parts if possible".. could it be what is disturbing the program's normal running?

thx

it shouldn't since i have that option enabled and in fact, most ppl have it enabled too :-/
But it could be that that with some other thing is the problem.Now... what's that other thing? ;-)

another thing that could be interesting is that i use to download series, so usually i have many "similar" files and probably lots of them are shared by the same user.. could this be a conflict at various queues of the same user? (i'm talking about the management done by amule when entering to queues of the same user/ip)

A client can only ask another for one file in the ed2k network.

In the case of a client being a source of more than one file, only one is chosen to download and queued, the others are marked (by your amule, only for information) "Asked for another file (A4AF)" and not requested.

I experienced the same problem too.

Once ,i had amule 2.0 rc5 running for more than 3 weeks and well, it didnt crash, but i had to close it and restart it since it wouldnt download at more than 2 or 3 kbps  ;(  .

It was an incremental decrease in download speed, eveyday was a bit slower than the day before. In fact the whole (i.e. program interface) program was slow, right clicking and waiting forever to see the menu, clicking on another tab and wait long times to change... so i guess the problem resides in that amule eats more and more system resources as time goes by and it gets to a time when its got not enough power left for calculations, opening and closing conections, etc...
The upload speed was always constant though. at around 9kbps as it is set, so no problem there.

well

i've been controlling the program activity (as long as possible for me) and i don't know if it's possible, but it seems that when you are downloading (let's imagine your download limit is 20 and now you are receiving at 10, for example) and another download is starting the new one seems to steal the bandwitch to the oldest one, even if you have available bandwitch

another thing that i can say is that when you are downloading files (let's imagine you receive at 20 and your limit is 32) and you begin to download something via http (maybe you get some file from a web) the web download steals provisionally bandwitch to amule but it seems that amule can't recover it when the web download finishes.. i can see the downloads that have lost their bandwitch temporarily downloading for some time at 0 kb/s and finally they stop downloading

i hope i can help the developers to know where's the problem :)

regards :D
