aMule kills internet connection
« on: April 01, 2005, 01:07:24 AM »

Hello

I installed aMule on Slackware 10.1 (kernel 2.6.11.5) compiling it with options like in INSTALL file. After running for several minutes aMule kills my internet connection (USB cable modem - CDCEther class I suppose). Connection limits have no influence on this phenomena. Other options are set to default.

Did you read this?

Try lowering your upload speed. If you have 64, set it to 32, then 16 etc, and see if that makes a difference.

Cheers!

I wrote that connection limits have no influence on this, and by writing that aMule kills my connection I meant that it shut down it completly, not just slow it down. But thanks anyway

What about:

1) Preferences->Core Tweaks->Max New Connections/5secs? Is it 5?
2) Preferences->Connections->Connection Limits->Max Connectios? Try something like 50.

It is a known issue that due to an excessive number of connections, some modems/routers reset. Try to read the wiki, this is an insteresting link too:

I don't like the idea of setting low limits and connections/sec because I know that my network is capable of handling eMule (not aMule) with those settings set high (connections limit - 500, connections/sec - 20). It run beautifully and didn't slow down web browsing to much (and definitely didn't kill my connection). Even eMule on the other computer in my LAN, which I forward connection to, works fine. I cannot run Windows because I need Linux for work, and I cannot afford two machines running 24/7 so I need to run aMule and I would like it to run as good as eMule.

I did some research and found out that my system has connection limit set on 100 and I think that this could be the problem. However I don't have idea how I can change this setting.

The other thing is that my machine forwards connection to another one (with the use of ipkungfu firewall script) on which eMule (WinXP system) runs just fine.
