Dont know, I tried to recompile everything this time with the gentoo way. I suppose it has lots of useless stuff.

For those that use Gentoo I've post a topic in their forum

Please leave your comment and info about your system in order to try to solve this headhache. Maybe we can get some attention from the gentoo dev's too and get the problem solved, wich is a good thing for both gentoo and aMule.

Thanks and amule dev's sorry for the external link but it's for one good cause :)

ok, i've found a (partial) solution

leaving amule switched to another tab (search, shared files, servers) interface doesn't hang

maybe this could help identifing the problem, it seems to be wxGTK linked to gtk1 related, and happens when resuming uploads after completing a file with transfer window open

Hello,

i m using gentoo too, and never had this such of bug

GTK1 and Curl are from gentoo (ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~x86)

wxBase, wxGTK1, and amule are from scratch

I use vanilla 2.4.24 Vanilla kernel recompiled from scratch

Do u use gentoo-sources kernel ? maybe a bug caused by performance patches and new cpu scheduler

could u try with a 2.4.24 vanilla kernel ?

I use 2.6.1 kernel (gentoo-dev-sources) and I was taking a look at the ebuid.
They apply a lot of pateches. I will try the vanilla 2.6.1 sources, when I have some free time. If anybody else could test please post the results.

Okay I think here are some people who using Gentoo without having enough knowledge about linux! I mean there are some not all!

So before we can talk about your problems we have to know something about your installation! So if you have stage1, 2 or 3?

This information is important to rebuild the error, so we can understand it. As far it is not recommended to use a stage 3 installation if you want to use gentoo! If you want do this, you even can use mandrake or such a dist.

This have to be said, because some people just wondering why it is not running and have no idea which system pkgs they have installed. That's bad for troubleshooting!

----

After this short  ;) text I want to tell what I have...

Gentoo 1.4 (Stage2)
Kernel 2.6.2 (no emerge one --> directly from kernel.org)
wxWindows 2.4.2 (tar.bz2)
GTK 1.2 (emerged)
aMule 1.2.5 (tar.gz)

No crashing with large downloads. I have completed a 1,1 GB file without crashing.

Before I used the 2.6.2 kernel I have used 2.4.22 and even there was no crash caused of large downloads.

So I can say: It is something with your gentoo installation! I cannot see any other problems...
So try to install Gentoo with Stage 1 or 2. If you can't do this, because you don't know how to do this correctly, install another distribution like Fedora, RedHat or something...

Please note: I think here even are some very experienced users, but some are not. This was not criticism for everyone who uses gentoo, but only for some of them, so don't be angry...

Greetings

I have the same setup as you (I have stage1). But the stages on gentoo doesn't matter if you update your system. (I have instaled with 1.4 cd)
If you want, and if you have the "enough knowledge about linux" please take a look at this bug report @ gentoo and try to help to find the where the problem lives.
I'm too busy to emerge wxwindows and try the amule via emerge, but if you, or someone else can try please post there for gentoo developers take a look.

But the stages on gentoo doesn't matter if you update your system.

If you choose stage 3 there is no way to update the preinstalled packages "correctly". Sure you can do if you accept some errors and like what gentoo dev's think is the best for you...

So how you can read in the documentation "... Stage 3 you can't tweak anything...". So this stage is simillar to other distros, like RH or MDK, etc.

You know what I mean?

---

But now to your offer:

Sure I will see if I can help to find the bug. My problem is that I can't reconstruct the bug, because I have it not. But I will see what I can do...

Thanks for your refreshing critics anyway...

The first thing I can see is the problem with the linked libraries.

Quote
The main problem is with wxGTK, because gentoo links wxGTK with a lot of libraries, specially with gtk2, and amule only work with gtk. I've set USE=- gtk2 -unicode and reemerge wxgtk but it continues to hang the interface.

So here's my ldd output:

Code: [Select]
libwx_gtk-2.4.so => /usr/lib/libwx_gtk-2.4.so (0x40020000)
        libgtk-1.2.so.0 => /usr/lib/libgtk-1.2.so.0 (0x404eb000)
        libgdk-1.2.so.0 => /usr/lib/libgdk-1.2.so.0 (0x4064c000)
        libgmodule-1.2.so.0 => /usr/lib/libgmodule-1.2.so.0 (0x4068d000)
        libglib-1.2.so.0 => /usr/lib/libglib-1.2.so.0 (0x40690000)
        libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x406b5000)
        libXi.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXi.so.6 (0x406b8000)
        libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 (0x406c1000)
        libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 (0x406d1000)
        libz.so.1 => /usr/lib/libz.so.1 (0x407b3000)
        libcurl.so.2 => /usr/lib/libcurl.so.2 (0x407c4000)
        libssl.so.0.9.6 => /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.6 (0x407f1000)
        libcrypto.so.0.9.6 => /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.6 (0x40820000)
        libstdc++.so.5 => /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.2.3/libstdc++.so.                                                              5 (0x408f2000)
        libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0x409bd000)
        libgcc_s.so.1 => /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.2.3/libgcc_s.so.1                                                               (0x409df000)
        libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x409e8000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40a37000)
        libgthread-1.2.so.0 => /usr/lib/libgthread-1.2.so.0 (0x40b5e000)
        libpng.so.3 => /usr/lib/libpng.so.3 (0x40b62000)
        libjpeg.so.62 => /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.62 (0x40b8e000)
        libtiff.so.3 => /usr/lib/libtiff.so.3 (0x40bb8000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x40000000)
So there is no GTK2 anywhere. Do you have GTK2 installed when emerging/compiling wxGTK?

So if it is so, try to unmerge it, recompile wxGTK and then emerge GTK2 again and see if the GTK2 libraries are even linked to the amule client.

EDIT:
Also try to set this:
Code: [Select]
EXTRA_ECONF="--disable-gtk2" USE="-gtk2 -unicode" emerge wxGTK
Greetings

        /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x40000000)

And I've still have hangs, but they happen in random order...
I have gtk 2.2.4-r1 instaled... I've tried emerging wxgtk without gtk2, but I have the same problem. I will try with the new version of amule when I have a litle more free time...
