Hi Kry,

I dont understand what you mean, is it that you think the server i connect to (which is always random, i do not choose it myself) is a fake one?

Ive seen post of others saying that changing server did solve the problem, I have tried that many times to no avail, for me the only solution is restarting amule.

Salute.

Hi feralertx!

Well, at least for me, i can reproduce it everytime i run amule (with every cvs of amule since and including 2.0.3), and it doesnt happen in a concrete and/or specific moment but always. How to do it in other machines? no idea.

Well, I have never seen it happen here. I can't reproduce it. So I can't debug it. :(

By the way, there is a known issue. After a few days working, aMule 2.0.3 does not download new files. To check that we are talking about the same issue, please tell me the value of these fields AT THE MOMENT OF FAILURE:

Statistics->Connections->Active Connections (estimate)
Statistics->Clients->Has Sockets: (only in debug enabled versions of aMule)
Preferences->Connections->Max Connections
This is a totally separate issue mate as anyone who had actually read the whole thread would now. The problem we are pointing out here is that amule doesnt find sources for new added files so they never get downloaded, doesnt matter whether amule has been running for 2 minutes, 2 days or 2 months, BUT if you restart amule, it will find sources for those files and download them as usual.

Maybe it is a "totally separate issue mate as anyone who had actually read the whole thread would know" but I tend to think this sentence is a bit ironic, anyway, let it go... What I mean is that aMule can add files to download queue, but will not start downloading new files because it thinks it has no available connections to use. Whether you can trigger this issue in a minute or in 10 days, I can't tell. And the net effect is that no new downloads start until you restart aMule. And once you are in the network, finding sources is a matter of beeing informed by the server. On a local search, only the server you are connected to will reply with his known sources. On a global search, all known servers will give you sources. If you get NO sources and then restart aMule and then DO get sources, then we might be able to reproduce your issue if you give us a step by step procedure.

So, we all agree it has nothing to do with caring, right? ;)

My point is that if you ask people to help you track down bugs, when they do so they deserve at least a reply, even if its a negative one. Because it would be easier for me and others to just wait until the problem gets resolved with the help of someone else and dont get involved and bothered, but we, on the other hand, take the time to post and be willing to do beta testing.
Well, like I said, it is a matter of resources. We must colaborate. I can't trigger the problem here. If you want us to solve it, you must find a way to reproduce or at least make it more probable to happen. Think about that, if I can trigger it, I can debug it.

A lack of response *is* a negative response, considering we all read the forums. Ok, this is a little rude, but it is also hard for every dev to keep answering the issues he cannot fix like: "sorry man, this one I can't fix". The forums would be filled with that reply...

I really appreciate the efforts of all testers, where would this project be without you? But you said the "devs don't care". I say, "the devs do care". Just that. :)

Your time is not wasted, but unfortunately you still fail to give me detais necessary for me to reproduce your problem.

No, I don't find it offensive. But I find it incorrect. That is why I replied.

Now, getting a little technical again, do you have IP filter on? IP filter is a must these days because of fake servers and RIAA nodes. Maybe you are connecting to a fake server, like Kry suspects. Try to use a good and recent ipfilter.dat file, maybe this will solve your issue. And please, do report your results :)

Cheers!

If its a fake server issue, try just adding these servers to your static list (right-click server > mark as static):
ed2k://|server|195.245.244.243|4661|
ed2k://|server|62.241.53.2|4242|
ed2k://|server|62.241.53.16|4242|
ed2k://|server|62.241.53.17|4242|
ed2k://|server|193.138.221.213|4242|
ed2k://|server|193.138.221.214|4242|
ed2k://|server|213.186.60.106|4661|

Also raise thr priority of the first server (Razorback 2.0) as it is generally the best server to use and you want it to try and autoconnect on startup.

Make sure you disable both of the Update serverlist options under Preferences > Server otherwise you'll keep getting new fake servers in your server.met :)

Also does the SonnyBill name sound familiar? There are a number of fake servers going by this name that amule tends to connect to.

Solution Found!?!?!
« Reply #18 on: October 11, 2005, 12:54:43 AM »

I think I found a (at least temporal) solution!!!

Thanks Phoenix and darklegion for your tips on the fake servers issue.
I followed your instructions but same thing kept happening.

Its really random when the 'no sources' problem arises and i cant say when its gonna happen and to which files, BUT... on those files with no sources i tried raising their priority to high and after a few moments...  THEY START GETTING SOURCES  :D IM SO SO SO HAPPY :P , at least i wont have to restart amule every couple of days now!, i tried this with different files and worked on all of them.

Thomy20, Alder, Arichy and everyone else with this problem: PLEASE TRY THIS AND LET US KNOW IF IT WORKS FOR YOU TOO.

 :)Cheers! :)

Are you sure you removed all the fake servers?
Reports in the original thread on this issue suggest that once you have removed all fake servers from your server list the problem is gone.

hi everyone,

I experienced the same problem (new downloads not starting) and after I read the "big" thread about this problem I tried to solve it by removing that fake servers. So I stopped amule, deleted all that possibly fake servers, deactivated the automatic update, restarted and connected manually to razorback 2.0. Then added a new file and:  ... tataaa ... NOTHING!

AND: Yes I've been waiting, tried it with more than one file and I know there are sources available. aMule has been connected to razorback all the time and my serverlist has not been updated.

I'm sorry, but this solution doesn't work. At least not for me.

I'm using amuled 2.0.3 with amuleweb on debian sarge 3.1 (installed with apt-get)

btw: the serverlist I had before was from http://www.gruk.org/server.met.gz, so it's been the same that is used in amule cvs (according to lionel77, see here)

hi again,

I did some more testing meanwhile.  The files I added before were all added as ed2k-links. Now I've tried to add some new files directly from a search. And this time it worked. It took some time till they started (about half an our or more) but they are downloading now.

And I had another idea. I thought that if this problem really comes only from fake servers, then emule-users should have experienced it too. So I did a search in the forum at the official site (emule-project.net) and with google. Fake servers are heavily discussed, but I could not find one single user with the same problem that is discussed here.

hmmm, no answers...

just wanted to know if my post is so uninteresting or if you think I'm totally wrong (with that "emule-theory")...

Well it could be (and most likely is) an interaction between fake servers and aMule. So only the combination of using aMule and having fake servers in your servers list would be causing this problem.

But it happened to me although I was not connected to a fake server (none in the list). And it does not happen to emule users even if they got fake servers in their list.

That's what makes me believe that it's a bug or at least a problem that can be solved by changing amule's source code. I hope that somebody finds and fixes it one day...

I've commit a fix to CVS that will most likely solve this issue:
