In the shared directories preference, it looks as though it defaults to sharing the root folder because it's the root folder that's shown by default when you first go to that tab. So I tried to select another directory.
Now, the expand-directories triangle symbol does not always work on the first click. In fact, it takes two or even three clicks before it decides to respond. Not realising this, I then clicked and double-clicked on the root-folder symbol itself to see if that expanded it, but that had no apparent effect. Even in retrospect, this still seems to be the obvious thing to try. What actually happend was that Amule started sharing a file that I had in the root-folder.
When I saw that the shares window showed that I was in fact sharing my root directory, I went back to preferences and tried to unshare it. But however I tried to select another directory, the root-directory remained shared. After a long period of experimentation I realised that I had to double-click on the root-folder to unshare it. This is very counter-intuitive.
There's nothing really to indicate that the root-folder is shared. It doesn't change colour and the fact that "/" gets emboldened to look like "/" hardly stands out. (I have got the bold markers around the second instance in that line by the way.)
Anyway, this doesn't seem very secure. I'd rather see a checkbox added to that preference tab saying "share directories" and have it unchecked by default. And that the directory sharing should only work if it's checked.
