Downloads never completed
« on: September 14, 2006, 06:50:41 PM »

I have a lot of things for download. Seems like every download stops when it is lacking about 10MB, it goes for all of them. Suddenly there are no sources available. I download stuff with 700-1200 sources, but there are zero available now, and the status is waiting/priority Auto (high). Have I done something wrong? I have left the MAC on for download for several days now, no change... The total MB pr download is about 700 MB.

I can add that all 7 downloads are lacking exactly 9,28 MB top be completed. A bit strange, no??

And the last chunk is really displayed as red (i.e. none of your sources has it)and not as blue?

If not, you can check the logs if there are messages like the following (which would indicate corruptions):
2006-08-06 20:53:21: PartFiles: SomeFile.rar: Expected part-hash: ABCD045BB73C8A6D9B94B96A872ED20C
2006-08-06 20:53:21: PartFiles: SomeFile.rar: Actual part-hash: 59C09888EBA4D76A9F5AABBE71ED5655

Yes, the last part is still red in all of the downloads. You think this means I have unluckily downloaded uncompleted files? Where do I find the log? Is there a way of knowing this for the future to avoid this kind of download?

Thank you for your answer!

Look into the "Last seen complete" column for those files, if it says "Unknown" for all of them, you've never seen them complete,  which would indicate that they are just dead files on the network.

If you start a new download and almost everyone has the same chunks and the remaining chunks are red, that file is very likely dead.

Btw, the log is at the bottom of the server list window in aMule and has "aMule Log" as the title. :)

Thank you for your explanation! This cleared up my situation I think.

In 5 out of 7 downloads the last complete download is "Unknown". That, I suppose, means bad luck. I don“t find anything in the log that I understand :), but I will be more careful looking for the chunks before I download. I assume I will have to give the download a couple of days to be sure I have covered everything, no?

Thank you again!

Checking for sources for a few days is usually a good idea, but sometimes even longer makes sense, unless there is a large number of other clients with the same missing chunks (in that case you can assume that some of them have been trying to download the file for a while).
