Lots of problems with 10.4.8.
« on: October 10, 2006, 02:35:50 AM »

Hello Friends.

Since I have updated to 10.4.8 my aMule nearly has broke down. It doesn't download anything, it has become very very slow. And the most important is that.. it doesn´t let me surf the web while I'm connected to amule. It didnt' happened before and I haven't change anything so the problem must be the update and the combination with amule.

I know many people in my country that are suffering the same and in many other forums.

Any idea of that?

Thank you. Bye.

Have you tried temporarily renaming aMule's settings folder?
- quit aMule
- rename the "~/Library/Application Support/aMule" folder somehow so that aMule creates a new settings folder upon the next aMule startup

@everyone else:
If you have already installed 10.4.8, could you please quickly post here whether you are having issues with amule, too, since the update or not?

Hello Lionel77 I'll explain everything that had happened since I wrote my last post.

I have 'un update' to 10.4.7 and everything came ok again.  I deleted everything about aMule (with sportligth searching) and I also deleted amule directory in application support folder. Then I downloaded again a new amule and Install it again.

Since that everything cames ok again, I could navigate perfectly, amule worked again... EVERYTHING FINE. But.....

This Morning I make the final check: I updated again to 10.4.8 and........ EVERYTHING CAME BACK TO THE PROBLEMS.

Amule has become anormusly slowwwwww, and when amule is connected it doesn´t let me navigate.

10.4.8 makes something (I don't know what) that make this happen.

I'm a computer engineer and I use to be in many spanish Mac forums and many technicals ones (i'm spaniard) and I'm NOT the only one with this problem. In http://www.macuarium.com (the greatest mac comunnity in spanish  for Spaniards and South America's people) we have also open a thread about this beacuse there are many people with this problem.

i haven't changed anything on the mac except the 10.4.8 update.

I hope this get a solution quickly with the help of all the people.

Thank you for everything.

is this on a intel or a ppc mac? i'm running amule 2.1.3 on an imac intel and have no problems after the 10.4.8 update. amule runs all the time and there are no problems with other internet connections like mail or web.

Hi LaRRinco,

I posted a question about this problem on the french amule forum.

this also for Lionel 77
I have exactly the same pb with 10 4 8 on a ppc G4 ==> 350 Mhz !!! (used only for downloading)
Amule was running so fast with 10 4 7, that I had to change a lot of parameter to make it work perfectly, and it was really incredible ... see

Since I uploaded the 10 4 8, it works very slow, impossible to open mail or web (y're not connected on the web) ... same pathology as you

I think that amule takes to many charge on the processor with Tiger.8, because if I launch vlc on a film during 30 seconds, and close it,  I can open firefox or mail, amule is still open and works (down and up) very slowly untill 0 / 0 if my session on the web is too long.

It's not a pb of amule and a ppc G4 processor even a small one (350 pci from 1999!), more a pb between amule and ppc G4 caused by 10 4 8. (calculation/sec level to high ? I don't think so)

I have a free 80gb HD and will install Tiger.7 and amule 2 1 3 on the same ppc g4 350, and will start this week end to check if splitting between the 2 different systems with same parameters in the same computer shows that Tiger.8 is conflicting with amule 2 1 3.

Using Console or  Monitor doesn't show any evidence about this (supposed) overcharge.

Hi,

I've made my test with another HD in my G4 with 10 4 8 and 10 4 7. "there is something" making amule working a little slower with 10 4 8, but not so evident.
The best solution founded, is to put amule on a slave HD (including applications and folders) and let play the master HD with the OS and other applications.

I can open and operate quickly than before web and mail, and also work on photoshop CS, during that time, amule is U= 14 D = 85. Menu meters indicate 56 % charge on the CPU (385 Mo Ram used), when amule is working alone ... great save than before, isn't? :)

I just had to reduce to 150 connexions per 5 sec, and band limits about 30%

The only problem is to go back on amule screen, then it's a little frozen, and have to force it in the dock with the right button, takes 10 sec to come back.

I must say this works more fluent now than before, even with 10 4 7.
