aMule + server (can't find anything)
« on: October 30, 2006, 01:24:23 PM »

Hi everybody.
I've been noticing a problem with aMule for (about) a week.
I open aMule but it let me connect only to DonkeyServer N° 1 or N° 3 (nor 2, neither 6, etc). If I try to connect to the other servers I ALWAYS get the message "Your IP is currently blacklisted".
Although "officially" connected, with the global search I can't find ANYTHING! I tried also with "popular" tags such as "xxx" (I thought I would get million of results) or with links from drunkendonkey.net, but nothing happens. Only if I use KAD I get something, but not with the link from drunkendonkey.

I thought it would be my Airport, so I switched it off and tried with the direct connection with my ibook (G4). Nothing changed.

It is curious that if I switch to the PC everything works perfectly (with eMule).
I've tried to unistall and re-install also, but nothing changes: I connect to DS, and I get no results with the global search.

Help me, please!!  :(

Are you not running a current version of aMule (either 2.1.3 or my most recent cvs version)? Are you maybe sharing a lot of files (more than 500)?

4. Getting blacklisted/banned

Depending on how you look at things being blacklisted is a good thing and a bad thing. Why it's bad... it limits the number of downloads (but not much though). Why it's good?... it stops excessive strain placed onto the servers, which is better for everyone. If you happen to be blacklisted don't worry, its only temporary so as long as you don't do it again you won't get blacklisted again. Check the server log to find out whether you have been blacklisted or not.

Your ip is blacklisted and your connection is refused, what do you do now? Shut down eMule and wait an hour... your IP should be then clear as it’s only a temporary ban. Why did I get blacklisted in the first place and how to prevent it form happening in the future? Read the points below.

To many simultaneous downloads: more than 20/30 downloading files depending on the server. This includes active downloads whether they are actually downloading or just waiting in queue, as they too are searching for sources and communicating with the server and other clients. The only time when your queued downloads are not effecting your bandwidth or the eD2k network is when they are stopped or paused. Stopping your download discard your sources, and pausing it keeps them.

Too many shared files: you should look into the soft/hard server file limits on serverlist to know the allowed number of shared files. Soft limit means that it’s the minimum, it can be tolerated depending on the current server load, while hard means you never pass it or it’s instant kick/ban.

Jumping to multiple servers in a short time: the UDP search feature will find the sources for you without the need to do this, just be patient. Also too many global searches, try using an ED2K indexing site for the files you're looking for.

Stopping and resuming your files multiple times: this will only spend credits from your server connection and won't bring more sources.
