please change the upload ratio settings
« on: November 02, 2003, 09:08:55 PM »

how about changing the upload ratio to 3k upload to get full download?
if you have 768/128 dsl and 2 donkey boxes on the network 10k minimum is simply impossible
you cant even surf anymore and it slows the whole download

please consider this

You're joking?!? Did you understand the idea of filesharing??? If you run aMule in 2 boxes take an upload of 5. This setting allows you a download of 20 for each box. That should be enought.

How about Mldonkey way
« Reply #3 on: November 03, 2003, 10:02:20 PM »

Ok. I know and appreciate sharing. And I also think that no limit download should not be.

But see this, in Turkey %95 of broadband users (if we can call this broadband) is 128/32. Thus with emule you can not even top 16Kbyte/sec max because if you give 3Kb to upload, everything almost stops.

Mldonkey has a minimum of 1Kb upload, which is fine, so you can top 16K.

Now, considering the modem users and not-so broadbands, can't you let 1Kb upload up till let say 15K download ? You can let the usual download ratios after this narrow band limit, considering the max you can download from a 128/32 is 2,5K or so practically.

This is not a request for leeching. I'm using Mldonkey and happy with that. But seeing that amule is a promising client I thought this can be a good policy.

please stop this "do you know what filesharing is?"
« Reply #4 on: November 04, 2003, 05:20:50 AM »

thats just stupid bullshit

you dont even know how long im online

what im im online 24/7 and only get myself a movie once a week
that user capped even when capped to 3k upload still serves the net
its better than not having him online

im too lazy to go into math now cause this has been talked about several hundred times
even low upload / high download users are good for the system as files spread faster

I understand the problem, I had even a 150/32 connection! then they upgraded to 256/64, now its 512/128. but back then (;)) i didnt like the max/min setting too. I had alot troubles choosing the right setting. but I think its still not fair to let ppl download much much more than they upload, every bit that is downloaded by someone must be uploaded by someone else...

anyway, I think it whould be usefull to make an different setting for low speeds - like nameless said. something which whould serve the 128/32 users. lets say 1/6 so they could make 12 down 2 up, thats quite fair. it might even be a seperate option - "low upload speed" - setting for example - but make clear its intended for those who CANNOT upload, not for those who want to limit upload (why whould you want that?)

That is it

I exactly would like that low-speed setting.

As I said, unless it was stopping my whole Internet traffic by 3kb upload why should I limit the upload. This is a setting lacking in emule and others and it may be just the thing to win low bandwith users. Something like 2/12 would be fine.

Here in Israel I got 1500/96 kbps line (it's not a joke). So, with aMule 1:4 limit I can download only at 1/3 of my line capacity. Suggestion - make upload rate setting like in mldonkey - you can never set it to 0, only 1 and up.

Well is not that I have nothing to say at thins - It's that is should be pretty clear by itself.

That's not against oyu in anyway. The ul:dl ratio was implemented on eMule, and lmule/xmule/amule got it from there. And it's a good thing, 'cos it forces users to upload at least 1/3 of what they d/l. That's pretty fair IMHO.

Problem is: what f the user cannot u/l at enought speed to get best d/l speed with 1/3 ratio?

Well, I say: sorry.

We cannot remove the ratio, neither raise it or add a "low upload speed" button, 'cos, you know, world it's full of leechers. I'm not calling you leechers, but if we remove the ratio, we're harming the network FOR SURE.

Cannot be done guys... sorry. Hope you get better connection soon.

Go install some traffic shaping script like wondershaper. Then you should be able to set the upload to 10 without killing your connection.

@kry: but couldnt there be a low-upload-users setting for the users with some 128/32 or whatever, so they can have a decent speed too? just a button like "low upload speed on my line" or whatever, or autodetection (if someone gives his up/down limits) so there is only one exeption on the 1/3-rule.

I mean the rule is meant to avoid leechers, but is bad for ppl who can't help it - so there should be some exeption imho.

an setting for the ppl with a 128/32 like 12d/2u whould be nice.

I dont have problems with the current settings, but some do, I understand that.

?

C'mon guys. it's a network feature, eMule does the same, and I'm sorry but we cannot get rid of the up/down ratio.

We cannot provide it for the same reason guns must not be free. Good people use it properly, other do not.

My problem is a litle different, i am a 10Gbyte/Mount amount of tranfer, i need to limit to this.
i can put the uplad to 10k, but when i need download i am limited by the provaider or pay more. then i am forced to limit to 1k or 2k all the mont exept when downloading.
aMule can use a global mesure of data tranfer to determine limits, a user has upload 5Gb and has donload onely 1G of data can download with no speed limit!!
i need to say amule to upload a maximu of 7G/ mount too

this can help low band users (change G for a smoller multiplicator)

Best Regards
