« on: December 28, 2006, 10:32:14 AM »

after one month of fighting i've finally got my first finished download!! yay! but i have no idea how to move it over to a folder to be able to view it, i've tried just clicking on it and dragging as my dad told me to do which works for him, but no luck doesn't even light up or anything. also could someone please tell me what the incoming directory and temporary directory is?  :D

Hi tinkerbellarulz!

Default locations:
Downloads: ~/Documents/aMule Downloads
I think temporary files are in ~/Library/Application Support/aMule/Temp

(~ is your home directory)

You can see your directories in Preferences->Directories

Maybe it is not a divx film, but someone said it was one.

I hope this utility exists on Mac as well: Open a terminal and execute file filename

Code: [Select]
tux@ubuntu:~$ file nobody*
nobody-needs-to-know.avi: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 640 x 352, 23.98 fps, video: XviD, audio: MPEG-1 Layer 3 (stereo, 48000 Hz)
nobody-needs-to-know.txt: Non-ISO extended-ASCII English text, with CRLF line terminators

Sorry, let me rephrase this. In the ed2k network (which aMule uses) you can name a file however you want. Let's say I share a picture of my garden flowers and name it 'flower.jpg'. Now someone else may rename the file to 'car.jpg' and share it. When you search for 'car' now, it finds the renamed file, even though the file is still the same, showing my flower. Someone else may like to rename it to 'program.exe', 'song.ogg' or whatever. It will still be my flower, but when you search for the file you may believe it is something else.

I don't know about Mac, but on Linux you may check the file type by using the utility 'file'.

Try opening the file in vlc. That app opens all most any video file.

If that does not work, you can try the command line utility file that wuischke has mentioned. It comes with OS X, so you don't have to download it. To use it:
- open the Terminal program (in /Applications/Utilities)
- type "file " (note the space at the end)
- switch to Finder and locate the file that you have downloaded
- drag the file onto the terminal window, which makes Terminal insert the path of the file (e.g., you should now see something like "file /Users/yourName/Application Support/aMule/Downloads/yourFile.avi")
- hit return

I's normal, if the film is not fished! Please note that even if the progress bar in aMule is all Green, the film is not completed unless you see "Completed" in the status column. Have you resolved the previous problem?

tinkerbellarulz, please make sure the Incoming directory is set to where you want completed downloads to end up.  This should be different than the Temp directory.

Check the aMule log window.  There may be a problem moving the files into the final destination.  For example, you don't have permissions to write to the Incoming folder, there isn't enough disk space, or there's already a file there with the same name.
