aMule not connected
« on: April 22, 2007, 05:47:53 AM »

Hi,
Complete newbie here . I have just downloaded the latest version of aMule, unzipped it and installed it. The app appears to run, the windows come up, all the buttons seem to work, but  the status line at the bottom says "Not Connected (Kad: off)"
The Kad Info page says "Kadmelia not running"; the "Nodes stat" gives "http://download.overnet2000.de/nodes.dat", and the info at the bottom says "No valid servers to connect to ..." On the KAD page  the entire "New node" is empty. Clicking on "Bootstrap from known clients" changes it to "Kadmelia running; Status disconnected". In the  meantime, the button reads "Disconnect Kad".
The E2DK Info says "Not connected", with "http://ocbmaurice.dyns.net/pl/slist.pl?download/server-best.met" in the server list, but "No valid servers in the serverlist ..." on the info line at the bottom.
I wish to download stuff from a Chinese website that provides links to eMule, and all the info on their site (in Chinese, which doesn't help) relates to eMule.
But the question is, "How do I get aMule to connect to anything?"
Thanks
Mark

PS I'm on a MacBook Pro 17", 2.16 GHz, 1GB RAM, 10.4.9 fully updated ... 1K ADSL network.

The old nodes.dat address doesn't work anymore.
Try http://emule-inside.net/files/nodes.dat

You have no servers in the server.met?
Try connecting to e.g. ed2k://|server|62.241.53.16|4242|/ (Donkey Server Nr.2) or ed2k://|server|217.91.58.88|4441|/ (Serverlist for eMule) which are working for me.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, but I have been busy on other things and not had time to come back to this.
Things seem to be working now, and even, after more fiddling around, what I wanted to download is queued and coming down ... on the other hand, aMule tells me it is going to take over 15 days to download! I use a MacBook Pro connected through a wireless router; I think the latter may be part of the problem. So I'll have to look at some other way of connecting. There's no way I can leave the MBP here running for that length of time, as I need it for presentations at work.
Perhaps I should dedicate my old TiBook to this purpose and find a way of connecting it directly.
Thanks all the same.

It's no matter of wireless connection since about all of them are faster than your internet connection.

Some basic rules: aMule will tell you the remaining time based on the current download speed, this might and most probably will change.
If you have a big download it is recommendable to let aMule run as long as possible (the best is 24h/day and 7days/week).

I agree that using the TiBook might be a good idea, unless it runs Mac OS X older than 10.3.

Thanks. On the router question, aMule tells me that I have low priority because of a router or firewall, and I presumed  that that was contributing significantly to the slow download speed.
The TiBook (Rev 1 400Mhz!) is running 10.4.8 ... or maybe 10.4.9, I can't remember if I have upgraded it. I could certainly leave that one running 24/7.
I'll give it a try when I've got a moment and keep you posted.
Cheers
