« on: March 29, 2008, 01:21:27 AM »

hey im running amule on a macbook pro with leopard.  i recenty changed my airport security and my IP adddress went from 192.168.0.102  to 10.0.1.2  now i cant get a high ID.  i went into my modem admin settings so should i change the forwarded ports to the new IP addy "10.0.1.2"?

Im guessing you changed the base ip on the router... its a router not a modem btw. If its a linksys like i suspect, then in Applications and Gaming you will find :
Application     Start     End     Protocol     IP Address     Enable
just a name     port1   port2      both                  .2                   check this
port1 to port2 being the range of perts selected in amule Preferences:Connection
For example my TCP port is 1662 and UDP is 1672 so i would use the 1662 to 1672 range to forward.
You can use the same port for both. it doesnt matter i dont think.
Other routers have different ways of setting this up. they may specify external port, internal port and local ip. This is common for local firewalls too.
Another thing you can do if this fails is disable that port forwarding and go to the DMZ tab and enable that for your ip. Be careful though because this opens all ports to your computer.
Also check if you have the OSX firewall activated. You would need to open those ports there as well.
If this doesnt work then make sure your ip is the correct one. For example every time you reconnect to your router you may get a different ip due to other people being on the network.

did all that and still nothing new.  i mean before it was PERFECT.  i always got 2 green arrows.  so the only difference now is i have a new IP address. and i changed it in the router settings and now its always 2 yellow arrows.  i mean only one thing changed (THE IP ADDY)  and i corrected it.  so im lost lol.

He changed the default ip range. Thats a change security freaks like to do cus they dont want the default linksys one. It means your average dumbass can't grab a manual ip easily. This is usualy done in conjunction with disabling DHCP. Im guessing this wasnt done...
Either way, it should not affect as long as you have the forwarding set right.

Heres one thing though... sometimes i get firewalled messages with amule even though im not. They go away the next day.
Heres what you should do to check:
As I recall there are some easier ways to do this, some web based utilities to tell you if your port forwarding is working... maybe google it. Otherwise:
Disable all port forwarding(optional, DMZ will still work). And enable DMZ for your Ip address.
Check with a different application if you can get into your computer:
You can do this with another p2p app.
Or you can enable remote login or ftp file sharing then from a computer outside your router/NAT connect to it. To do this you need to use the external ip. For example. if internal ip is 10.0.0.2 and external is 204.23.24.25, you could use a free shell account to ssh into your connection if oyu have remote login turned on. You could also do this from  a friends computer, keep in mind though it has to be outside your NAT(network address translation, this means your router, firewall, modem, however you feel like referring to it).
Simply type: ssh USER@204.23.24.25
It will ask you to verify that the RSA signature is ok. hit yes. Or simply  ask for your password. IF you get to that theres no problem. Port forwarding is working.
If amule still says you are firewalled, then its simply confused. This happens, external connections in will still work i think(not sure bout this actually, maybe one of the amule dev people can tell you).
You can disable DMZ and re-enable port forwarding if you like after this.

He can try connect himself from the same machine. It's only important to use the external IP address.

Then why did your ip change? Are you sure your in the right AP? Turn your airport off and connect to the router via ethernet cable and check if the settings are still there. Ive heard hilarious stories about people who connect to routers that aren't their's and change all the settings, since it had the same linksys SSID out of the box.

yup im sure its mine.  i guess the IP addy changed because i switched securities. when i click on system prefs, network right there it says AirPort is connected to Steves Airport and has the IP address 10.0.1.2.  and i know its my airport because when i set it up in airport Utility it only showed 1 airport to configure. which is mine.  And when i plug in my ETHERNET cable it says  Built-in Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address 192.168.0.102.  so i went into my router config and put that IP to open and i got green arrows.  then i took the thernet back out used airport and green arrows are gone.  very weird.

i figured it out.  when i set up the airport i didnt have it create a range of IP addresses.  i fixed that now all my  machines have normal and different IP addresses.  sorry
