I support this request. Since it seems all Windows users have updated to eMule 49b and this "captcha" feature is enabled by default, it's impossible for me to chat other people.

I think it's up to the users whether chatting is useful or not.

Thank you in advance.

I have used the chat several times to get files with only one source. I contact the uploader, ask him to set the file to release and voila!

Regards.

I also get the error:
http://emule-project.net: In order to avoid spam messages, this user requires you to solve a captcha before you can send a message to him. However your client does not supports captchas, so you will not be able to chat with this user.

I would like to request aMule upgrade its chat libraries to include this.  I am using the SVN rev. 9251, and it is still not released in this pre-2.2.3.

There are currently no efforts to implement this feature, due to different individual development priorities. Patches are, however, welcome.

I strongly disagree with all of you dissin' chat on ed2k. I even solved some non-related IT problems by chatting with someone on 'mule. It's those fucking captchas that are the problem. What a pain in the ass ! That kind of shit is fit for a public website, not a p2p client. Besides there are much less intrusive ways of dealing with spam. I use auto-banning by the message filter, added via minor tweak to the source code. I wouldn't bet my nuts on this but I believe the mainstream eMule client already had this implemented for a while, so why now make people decipher some awful graffiti just to talk to a fellow peer? All of you discontent with this "feature" should lobby eMule developers over at their forums to have it at least turned off by default if not removed altogether, as I'm sure tons of users never even have a clue that their chat is being blocked 'under the hood'.

Be my guest to do just that. I'm sure this was discussed lengthy on the eMule board before the decision was reached. No need to discuss here what we can't change anyway.

I also set the spam filter in the aMule preferences, but I think there's a whole bunch of people who don't know how to do either and don't use the chat feature because they see that just as a spam vehicle, so they think they will not be replied.
So I think captcha is welcome, it is making chat more useful for those eMule users.
I hope someone will implement this into aMule.

Bye.

Chat captchas are implemented in 9436.   8)

(Read only for now, meaning you can answer them, but aMule doesn't generate them itself.)

Where have they gone in 2.2.4? Were they removed or could I have excluded them in building aMule?

They will be included in aMule 2.3.0. The current release aMule 2.2.4 includes only bug fixes and small improvements, but no new features.

Ah, that's good to hear. I just came across that limitation in 2.2.4 and was curious if this was being addressed. I have had very meaningful conversations with fellow mulers in the past via the built-in messaging platform. Given the international nature of our network, it has introduced my mind to the thoughts and intentions of various folks worldwide who are downloading files I share. Yes, the spam was annoying, but it was manageable. To me, the utility far outweighs the negatives. Just sayin'.

Agreed. It's mostly spam-only nowadays.

So, to be consistent: add captchas, or remove messages window.

EDIT: sorry, i didn't read it was included in 2.3.0

Sorry, but I simply can't buy it. I speak 4 languages, and use *mule for about 7 year, and _never_ received single human-sourced message. Never. Same apply to my friends (I asked them to confirm my experience).
Maybe this because ICQ and IRC was around long before ed2k?

That's probably true for most users. But when people share in a small release group (posting watermarks in a forum thread along the way) they might recognize each other in aMule too and start chatting. That's my only explanation.
And if nobody used it, people wouldn't ask for captcha implementation and stuff.

Hello, Yes, I think the captcha issue will be most useful. I am having trouble to download a medium sized file that I need to assemble a torrent and a direct download release, and the theme, All csárdás versions, concur with this guys view on the subject, because his file is a collection of 33 versions of that work.

Wouldn't that guy slot me his shared  file right away if  I could let him know that I already have 150 tunes of csárdás and that I'm working hard towards the 200 hits??

I'm sure he'd slot me his file right away, but in this case, I can't text him, and he can't receive my petition, 'cause the program lacks captchas,
so I am condemned to wait maybe a week, and, besides, HE WILL NEVER KNOW of my release, which I'm sure he'd be delighted with.

A pity.

Thank you very much for your attention.
