Low ID or firewalled after version update
« on: September 19, 2008, 05:02:58 PM »

If you have set a firewall rule for aMule and receive a low id or kad firewalled after installing a new aMule version, delete the rule and create a new one.

Mac OS X digitally signs applications and as the signature changes for the new version the firewall rule doesn't work anymore.

(Thanks to Kry for this information.)

I have low ID since updating.  Now I don't understand much of the firewall, so I 'm asking for help.  What I need is to have someone help me find a solution to this, and to show me as if I were 4 years old how to do it... HElp, I hate low ID

Is there someone with Mac OS X who could create a graphical (screenshots) guide for the wiki? Unfortunately, I don't own a Mac and can't describe the necessary steps.

The problem is due to protocol obfuscation. It doesn't work well on edonkey servers.

What screenshots do you need and where should I put them?

Hello shiroineko,

thank you for helping us. :)

Well, I don't know what steps are necessary to open the ports in the Mac OS X firewall. I imagine this works similar to a windows firewall - you go to the firewall page and select the program which is allowed to access.

So I suggest showing how to reach the firewall page and how to add the exception for aMule (and how to remove an exception for an old version of amule).

Am I correct with these steps? Do you think it's a good way to demonstrate this process to a novice user?

You could use either forum attachments or a service similar to imageshack.

1. Open System Preferences and go to Security section

2. In Security section go to Firewall tab.

3 In the list of exceptions find Amule.app entry.

3 If Amule.app is listed, select it and press "-" button below the list. After go to step 4.
If there is no Amule.app in the list skip to step 4.

4. Press the "+" button below the list. File chooser will open.

5. In the Applications  folder select Amule.app and click "Add" button.

6. Check that Allow incoming connections is set for Amule.app

Thanks shiroineko,
and for those with Tiger that need to enable the firewall:

1. Open System Preferences and go to Sharing section
2. In Sharing section go to Firewall tab and press the "New" button.
3. Select "Other" from Port Name list and fill out TCP with your aMule "Standard client TCP Port" and UDP with your aMule "Extended client UDP Port" and your aMule "UDP port for extended server requests (TCP+3)".
4. Click the "OK" button.

Guys, such information should go to the Wiki.
