Crash with r8

Hi, I managed to compile r8 on my iMac using the HowTo guide. But now when I connect to a server, aMule crash and so I can't use it. What can I do? Thanks...

You need a wxMac CVS version or aMule will crash due to socket bugs.

mybe the bug-fix of ken hasn't made it to wxWidget-cvs until now. Then, the source of your problem might be the one I was having (wxWidget CVS, amule  src rc8, the same as you). Had to do this on one file of wxWidgets from CVS (copied from http://forum.amule.org/thread.php?threadid=4566&page=3&sid=)

First, the backtrace isn't as useful as it could be because your amule wasn't compiled with debug symbols (or maybe you stripped them?).  In future you should probably put --enable-debug on the ./configure line.

In the meantime, did you get a lot of "Deallocation of pointer not malloced" messages to your console?  If you didn't run aMule from the Terminal, check Applications -> Utilities -> Console and view console.log.  If so, you are probably experiencing a previously identified bug.  See this thread (mostly toward the end).  It involves a tiny manual edit of a wxWidgets file and rebuilding.

now also the precompiled version of amule gives me the same problem. I think I have to remove all the preferences because if I use aMule on a new account it works. I've deleted the preferences files inside user/library/preferences but I think there are other files to remove. Can u tell me where? Thanks

NiKo, the other config data is a directory called ".aMule" located in your home directory.  You can rename that temporarily to test if that's the problem.

However, the best Mac aMule experience really does come from building wxMac from cvs plus the edit suggested above, and then building aMule from cvs.  The precompiled binary is convenient to download/install, but has known bugs including at least one that causes spontaneous crashes.
