my amule CVS has suddenly started quitting when i leave it overnight running...seems random how long it takes to quit..no error message apart from the generic "the app amule has unexpectedly quit " now when i restsrt the app i get a " expected an " = " in line 1 of the user/library/preferences/emule ...WTF does this mean can i just dump the preference file and restart amule or what

anyway after giving me the error message the amule seems to run fine but all the changes i made to the preferences are lost...

Are you using the patched wxMac?  See this thread.  (I'll add an "Important" thread to the top of the Mac OS X forum, since this comes up so often.)

The eMule Preferences file seems to be corrupt.  One possibility is that it got corrupted when aMule crashed.  Another possibility is that you edited the eMule Preferences file in a Mac text editor application.  It may have altered the line endings.  So now, aMule may be reading the file as all one line.

Now, certain parts seem to be duplicated in the file.  Maybe because aMule appended new lines at the end of the file after the part it couldn't read?

At this point, it's probably best to rename (or move to the Trash) the eMule Preferences file.  Run aMule and it will recreate a fresh one.  Then set the prefs you want from within the GUI.  If you must edit the file, make sure you use a program which understands and preserves the various line endings.  Or, use vi.  If it helps, Bares Bones Software just released a useful editor, TextWrangler, as freeware.  It is savvy about line endings and it integrates really well with the command line.
