Kad: firewalled
« on: September 18, 2005, 09:50:05 PM »

Using both aMule CVS 20050824 & 20050912 I see the Kad netword firewalled.

Under kad info I got:
Kademlia status: Running
Status: Connected
Connection State: Firewalled
Firewalled state: no buddy
Average Users: 80
Average Files: 11k

I don't understand if kademlia is working or not.
My connection is by a router and my Mac is in the DMZ [direct connected...].
I've also an HIGH id...
Thanks in advance for your help.

In aMule CVS 2005-08-24 Kad was not functional yet but in CVS 2005-09-12 it is.

You might have to wait a couple minutes until Kad detects that it is not firewalled: It starts by saying it's firewalled and by sending out a number of connection requests. Once the replies are received successfully it switches to not firewalled.

When the Kad network checkbox is disabled (gray) but checked, that means that Kademlia support was not compiled into the app.  In other words, "--enable-kad-compile" was not specified to the configure script, or "--disable-kad-compile" was specified.

Stes, did you compile aMule for yourself?  If so, reconfigure it and add "--enable-kad-compile" to the configure command.  Then, recompile it with "make", copy the executable into the application bundle, and it should work.

I get Kademlia status:not running in amule latest cvs binaries.

I have Kademlia checked in the connection preferences.

What's up with that?

You have to connect with the "connect" button or by autoconnecting on startup. If you connect to a special server Kad will not be started.

lfroen google for a nodes.dat and load it into aMule that solves it for most poeple....
with special, thedude probably ment "specific" this means

Kad does not connect if your have "auto connect" disabled, and connect yourself to a specific server.

Downloaded nodes.dat (one that specified in amule source) and put it in $HOME/.aMule directory. No effect - list is empty, kad is firewalled.

it did work for me.
Nice if in the furure there will be a more effective UI for handling Kad.
(like in the eMule client)
But im more than happy for the moment, I do appreciate the (hard) work behind this
great app.

I meant "double click on a server in server list" or "right click - connect" to connect to this very server instead of clicking the "connect" button.

How can I see my Kad status from amuleweb?

From the log there is nothing about the kademlia connection, I tried to do 'connect kad' from amulecmd, but still there are no references to any kad connection.
