Hum, I know that isn't mule.

At first, recently I know exist amlue icon(in program) is emule's icon.

And

There is rabbit logo in http://www.amule.org.(that look like  amule logo)
So I just guess there is some king of relectionship or amule team chose rabbit is their
logo.

So I design like that.

Thanks.

...
ahum... - the icon doesn´t look so new for me somehow. - in fact, it reminds me of "Thumper" from the disneyfilm "Bambi", as one can see on: http://disneyshopping.go.com/DSSectionPage.process?Merchant_Id=2&Section_Id=14416&Product_Id=114384&CLK=DS_EXTERNAL_LINK_TXT

You are right, that icon model is "Thumper"(that is only one, I can find a pretty rabbit).
I just re-make using inkscape.

Thanks for your efforts, but we can't use an image so closely derived from a copyrighted work.  It has to be original art, public domain, or licensed in a "free" manner (GPL-compatible).

Also, I suppose it's not for me to say, but I'm under the impression that the rabbit is an informal mascot based on an inside joke, not the official icon of aMule.  Of course, I don't know that there is an official icon.

I think the rabbit now well associated with aMule. We use the rabbit for the client icon for aMule, the official webpage has a rabbit on it (although the page icon is a mule), and alc's program icon is also a rabbit.

You completely wrong.

It's very confusing to call program Mule and put a rabbit (or any other animal) as logo. You immediatly loosing associativity this way. The idea of logo is to be closely associative with product and product name.
That's why Firefox (browser) have icon of firefox (animal) and Thunderbird (mail client) have thunderbird (a bird). Here is "why":
The name "aMule" sounds like "a mule", which creates association with mule (animal). That's human psychology, that's the way mind works.

So, choosing rabbit as logo is bad idea, unless we change name to something which doesn't contain another animal or have word "rabbit" inside.

If you (terry) like to design new logo, make it either with kind of mule or animal-neutral. But again, even purple mule is better associates with "aMule" that some kind of abstract image.

:) When dealing with human behaviour, it is very hard to define "right" and "wrong". That's why I did not say "rabbit logo is wrong". What I did say (read the post again), that if you like to create (in minds of users) association between logo and project/product you should picture what it souds. It sounds "mule", but picture is "rabbit".
In other hand, if you don't care about branding - any logo is ok. No logo is ok too. Seriosly.

Now let's get to "incoherent" thing. Oh, this one is so right ! Usually, program/product tends to put it's logo anywhere it can. In software world we have icon, menu icon, tray icon, website logo. Now on first 3 we have mule, and on last one ... rabbit. But wait - url is also called mule, so wtf rabbit doing there, user asking himself. The answer "rabbit is our logo" leaves user even more confused.

I know, this is not fare that you can't choose your logo by randomly picking picture. Human mind is in no way Newman machine. It is not operated by pure logic.

Well, you could also interpret the "a" in "aMule" as a negation (like in agnostic, atheoretical, etc.). Then an "unMule" could easily be represented by a rabbit... ;)

More seriously though, I have to say I find the rabbit preferable over a mule, too, because it makes people see aMule as an independent entity and not just as a simple cross-platform version of eMule.

That said, it would be great if we had a nice rabbit icon to replace the current mule application icon. However this should be one that does not get us cease-and-desisted by disney within 24 hours... ;)

I have no problem (and never had) with changing the icon.

And yes, lfroen, it's absurd. But THAT is what make it so special :) That's what makes us special as a project also ;) We think about fun, not about market.

Maybe we should make a "call for rabbit icon" announcement, I'm sure we would get some nice results... :)

maybe you should change the name to aRabbit... rabbits are smarter and faster than mules...

I'd say stick with the Rabbit logo... I like it...

BTW, I am looking for a web-button 80x15px if anybody got one... (getFirefox /RSS/XML size)
