Download speed goes down, and down until 0 in ~6hours always
« on: October 22, 2005, 02:17:28 PM »

I dont understant why.  I have tried it many times.  The problem is

download speed goes down, and down until 0 in ~6 hours always

then I restart amule and it _always_ run in a raising download speed statistic curve.  After a few hours (3 hours, approximately), it always reach a max and then starts again the decreasing curve (never recovering the increasing slope)... Then if I restart amule again, it starts increasing the downloading speed.

I have many downloads in progress and a 16 Kb/s upload speed (that always is constantly at top!).

I am going to be fool or paranoid because I am dont know if it my fault or a amule one.

Which version of OS X are you running? If it's Tiger, it's likely that what you are seeing is an expression of the "stuck connections issue" that every p2p app under Tiger is affected by. See this thread for more details.

As a temporary workaround, try the patched versions I posted in that thread. I am cautiously optimistic that 10.4.3 will fix this issue. The update will probably be released within the next one to two weeks, so let's keep our fingers crossed... :)

First:  Yes I use 10.4.2.

Thanks lionel77.  I have just downloaded

 http://download.berlios.de/amule/aMule-Mac.CVS.2005-10-06.noDebug.zip

and testing.    First of all I have tested the UDP Port (I have the TCP and the two others UDP redirected through my NAT) but it yet says NO:

Error: TCP port 4662 is unavailable. Make sure your firewall or router is allowing/forwarding this TCP service port and your ED2K client is running (i.e. aMule, eMule).

:-(

Did you maybe change the aMule ports from their default values? Then you have to enter the new TCP port on the connection tester page.

Another possibility is that you either did not open the appropriate ports in your firewall, or that you are not forwarding the ports to the right local IP.

As I wrote in the CVS binaries thread, you also get this message once aMule has accumulated the max number of stuck connections. But this should only happen if aMule has been running for a number of hours (or days, if you are using the patched version).

20 great hours!!

I open these ports (didn't touch on prefs defs)

4662 TCP
4665 UDP
4672 UDP

I have had the greater 20 hours in my emule/amule experience on my live, since it has keeping 50kb/s without any dropping at least until past 20 hours!

I must say that I did use xDonkey and others before amule and they also fall down in few hours... I did need to build a bash script to keep mlnet open for some hours augmenting the number of open files in the system...

This happened with 10.2 and 10.3 !!

Anyway, I am a lot more happy now.  I like amule a lot, and the promise of keeping on during these 20 hours and at that download speed rates is for me really a great experience!

Ok so just to be clear: Now neither aMule (after you connect to a server) nor the "connection tester" page tell you that you are LowID?

I am not sure about what is LowID, my apologize for it.  Looking for it, I found that in Info for ED2K says "HighID"  (really IDAlta in spanish).  Is that what you ask for?

...then, is there something I am doing bad? is it my upload rate? (I have 300/1000 up/down bandwidth)

could it be possible to monitorize the number of free sockets available and restart automatically amule via Terminal?

Thanks

No, it's actually very good to have a HighID. :)

I actually wrote a shell script that does exactly that. However, I felt like I did not have the resources to handle support for it, that's why I didn't post it here on the forums.

My suggestion is, for now let's wait until 10.4.3 is released (should happen this week I guess) and see if the issue is fixed or not. If not, I'll think about posting the script here together with instructions on how to set it up.

Not so hope

Not so hope in that the expected 10.4.3 (for this week, yes), will solve that old problem!
:]

I think the realistic position should be going to prepare the terminal script  ?(

Thanks, a lot, anyway.
