aMule CVS-20051006 and IPfilter
« on: October 27, 2005, 12:35:18 AM »

Hi.

I'm currently using IPfilter rev41 by ShadowCast. I like the extra security that this IPfilter brings, but I was able to get a lot more sources when I didn't use it. This IPfilter also brings a very small server list, with just 7 servers.

Example: I was able to get more than 100 sources when downloading [No copyrighted material please. Thanks, the Management.]. After the instalation of the IPfilter, I can't get mote than 20-25 sources.

What I would like to know is if by having a small number of servers in the server list, will that reduce the number of sources that I can get?

The initial set of sources come from your connected server.  After that, you can get other sources from the clients you connect to via source exchange.  Also, aMule will gradually poll the other servers in your server list.

So, if you limit the servers in your server list, it might have some slight impact on when you get certain sources.  However, if you have source exchange enabled, you should eventually learn about all the sources.

It's almost certainly your ipfilter that is reducing the number of sources.  Either it's too sweeping/aggressive, or those are sources you really didn't want anyway, because they are monitoring you or providing corrupt file data.

Thanks for the help.

I've looked for the source exchange option but couldn't find it and the aMule wiki doesn't seem to mention it. Where do I find that option?

There is no spoon ...er, option...
Source exchange is always enabled.
But we did have a problem with amule finding sources which was resolved after your cvs version was built. So be a litlle patient, the situation will improve with the next version / snapshot ;)
