AMULE LOW ID and solutions
« on: December 03, 2005, 12:26:53 AM »

My question is very simple,i'm driving myself crazy tryng to change my status from low-id..........it's been days and i'm not able to unload noting.
They say it is the firewall or the router (i do have a comtrend ct 535).
fact is that i tried to do everything that is in the link for portforwrding and doing something for the firewall.
Probably i did some mess in my configuration now.....

Is there any SOFTWARE that automatically and EASILY can open ports(think 4661/2 4672 should be opened),and switch firewall etc. etc.?
Or a software that automaticaly set up AMULE for the best?
Basically some software that can make life easier so to avoid spending hours wasting time...

Thank you

thought that changing from PC to Mac life was going to be easier............the same shit

My bet is that you haven't set up your router properly for amule. If this is the case there is nothing the computer (regardless of Mac or PC) can do to give you a highID.

You need to forward the ports amule uses in your router. For this, have a look at http://portforward.com/routers.htm.
aMule uses three ports (see Preferences->Connection) that need to be forwarded:
- a client TCP port
- a client UDP port (this is the above port +3)
- and an eMule extended UDP port

You can use the connection tester to test whether the client TCP port is forwarded properly.

Good luck. :)

First of all thank you very much..... ;)

....unfortunately few more hours were lost without success.

These are three images of what i did, maybe i did something wrong.
i gave my computer a static address.
Inserted the numbers in tha NAT directory to open the port i saw in the preferences....but nothing.
Still low id and the TEST on port 4662 failed.(by the way the link you gave says that MY EXTERNAL IP address is 83.53.114.72.  are this number of any use?)

And by the way i do have files to share but nothing was uploaded, only around 1 mega downloaded in few days

Internet connection works fine,i do use router Comtrend 535 with an apple powerbook and a PC wich has the same problem.

Just frustrating no to be able ti use this......  :(

I'm sorry that this is such a frustrating experience for you so far. :(

First I thought you did the port forwarding in reverse (your "Mac -> router" instead of "router -> your Mac") but I think your router interface is just a bit counter-intuitive.

I have to admit that I don't have a good idea what the problem is, but I my experience with router setups is also limited to the 10 minutes it took me to initially setup my Linksys router. So I am sure someone who is more knowledgeable in this area will be able to help you out. :)

I reviewed the portforward.com instructions for your router and compared to your screenshot.  There's one point of confusion, but I can't tell if it's because you did something wrong or if your router's display doesn't exactly reflect the input.  The portforward.com instructions say to enter the same static IP address (192.168.1.34, in your case) for local IP and public IP.  Your screenshot shows the router's address (192.168.1.1) for the public IP address.  Other than that, it looks right.

The only other issue is if your local network is more complicated.  For instance, is the Mac running aMule connected directly to the router, which is connected directly to the main connection to the internet?  Is there maybe an Airport wireless network in between?

I'm sorry, there really isn't any software to do this for you automatically.

Better than nothing

My download are still low...

my connection  speed  is   D 220  U  110

i did put in preferences

DOWNLOAD    0

UPLOAD        10

SLOT               2

are this numbers right?

I'm glad it sort of works for you now, but I am a bit stunned that the router would require you to constantly update the port forwarding table with your dynamic public IP. That just seems really clumsy.

Maybe one more thing you can try: instead of putting your actual public IP in the table use "255.255.255.255". That number is not an actual IP address, but sort of a wild card for every possible IP.
So the idea would be to tell the router to forward any packet, regardless  of the target IP, to your local machine (192.168.1.34).
I have no idea if this works but I thought it was worth a shot.

Concerning "aMule is slow": Most clients on the ed2k-network use (long) queues for determining who gets a download slot. Because of this, download speeds tend to be relatively low for freshly added files, and low as a whole if you just started aMule.
After 6-10 hours, speeds typically improve.

If you have an Airport, then that's essentially a second router.  You have to forward from your first router to the Airport base station and forward from the base station to your computer.  And the first router needs to be configured to give your Airport base station a static IP, and the Airport needs to be configured to give your computer a static IP.

Ken, I think his airport connection is through his Comtrend router and not through an additional Airport base station. If he did have an additional Airport base station, there is no way that he would have been able to get a highID by just forwarding the ports in the Comtrend router.

By the sounds of things you have a Dynamic IP. Where it says Public Address you need to have 0.0.0.0. This tells your router that your outside IP varies. The IP you've put into Public Address (192.168.1.1) is the router IP. This IP is the gateway SOLELY between your Mac and your router.

I know its in Spanish but this link is to an excellent router config webpage which will give you a visual reference to the NAT config for a Comtrend 535:

http://www.adslzone.net/tutorial-17.1.html

Remember unless you have a specific contract with your ISP that gives you a static public IP (and they will charge you extra for it) it will change. You've only made your LOCAL IP address static.

Good luck!
