The temp files are missing but still are there

Hi friends! Just started with the new version, everything seems to work fine... but there is nothing in the Temp Files. Thanks to Ken I´ve found a way to open that invisible folder... just a few documents but not the partial files I was downloading. My harddrive tells me the files are inside seeing the amount of memory left, the same as in version 2.0.3. So whats happened, any idea ? How can I search for those files, I dont care if I have to deleted it. The idea of having nearly 3G missing for nothing gets me nuts. I´m short of Gs. Thanks in advance for any tips.

With version 2.1.0, aMule has changed the location where it keeps it configuration files, including the default location of the Temp directory.  It is no longer in the hidden, Mac-unfriendly "~/.aMule" directory.  It is now in the Mac-appropriate location "~/Library/Application Support/aMule".

aMule is smart enough to transfer the existing ~/.aMule to the new location automatically.  Other than that change of location, everything should work as before.

Does aMule still know about these partial downloads?  Do they still show up in the Downloads list of aMule?  If not, then that's a bug on our end.  If so, then removing the Temp files is best done by cancelling the downloads within aMule.

Many thanks Ken ! You are my idol from now !  I´ve deleted the partials files from the Finder,  the list of partials downloads of Amule doesnt showed anything. So as you say must be a bug.

I'm glad I could help.  You seem very appreciative.  :)

I'd like to understand what happened.  You installed 2.1.0 but it did not show you the partial downloads that had been in progress when you were using 2.0.3?  You found those partial downloads in "~/Library/Application Support/aMule/Temp"?  But even though they were there, aMule 2.1.0 didn't show them in the Downloads list?  Or, was it maybe 2.0.3 that wasn't showing the partial downloads anymore?

Once you've used 2.1.0 (and it has moved the configuration directory to the new location), 2.0.3 won't find the existing configuration.  So, it will create a new configuration at the old location (~/.aMule).

Hi Ken... your reasoning is quite right.
1º- 2.1.0 installed. It do not show the partial downloads in progress when using 2.0.3
2º- Back to 2.0.3, the partials downloads are gone of the list. Blank.
3º- I found the partials downloads where you told me "~/Library/Application Support/aMule/Temp" using the Finder. Deleted all.
4º- Starting new downloads in 2.1.0. Everything is OK. The downloads list is showing them and they are located in the new and visible folder. Great improvement !

Weird.  If the partial downloads were in that directory and that's where aMule is configured to find them (as per your item 4), then they really should have loaded.  Well, if we find somebody else with that problem, maybe we'll have a chance to figure out the cause and fix it.

I'm a Mac OSX.3 user, and my aMule started to complain that my personal settings disappeared; it continued working, but I was unable to find the parts (Eg 001.part; no results looking for) and the downloads became erratic, some are damaged. I installed a new version, and it appears ok, but the old files - invisible! - still are occupying space in my (small) hd! Even searching for invisibles, even searching for .amule or .temp, or 001.part.met, no results; but are 2 Gb "unexistants" in my hd! And my trash carry a invisible folder called .amule that can't be threwed away; a "get info" in the trash freezes in the "calculating size" Can you help me?

Well, the lost files are probably in that folder called .aMule in the Trash.  I don't know how or why it got moved there.  Certainly, aMule shouldn't do that.

The first thing I would recommend is for you to check your disk for file system errors.  Probably the best way for you to do this is to boot from your installation CD/DVD and pick Disk Utility from the menu.  Then Repair the disk.  Instructions here.  If you've got another disk repair program, you can use that.

If you still can't empty the Trash after that, your best bet might be to open the Terminal application (in Applications -> Utilities).  Then type this at the command line (use copy and paste to be sure to get it exactly right):

rm -rf .Trash/.aMule

If that command gives errors, you can post them here so we can try to figure out what's going on.

The trash is empty, now, and nothing happened. I will try Disk Warrior, since is difficult to boot from cd - I use an old Mac, whose need a special software to work under OSX.

I'm trying another thing; since my Mac is old (a G3 233), the system has to be in a partition with less than 8 Gb. In this HD, the space decreased since more than 2 Gb are invisible and disappeared; so, I'm trying a trick: change the place of incoming and temporary for the second partition, that has lots of free space. However, the tool is not able to use the new partial downloads; no problem, I can restart the downloads, but each time I change the places to the second partition, the program always returns to default (users, home, application support, etc). Some way to make the second partition the default? The aMule app itself is in this second partition.

Just completing, I just discovered aMule ALWAYS do the same, put the temporaries in a folder inside home. Any way to change this place?

I already did it. I can choose any place, the temporaries ALWAYS go to users/home/application support/amule. aMule always criates a new folder with this name, and uses it.  And it doesn't solve my problem, since the temporaries use a space my first partition doesn't have.

Are you moving or removing ~/Library/Application Support/aMule?  If you move or remove that folder, then aMule can't find its configuration data and creates a new configuration from scratch.  Of course, this new configuration uses ~/Library/Application Support/aMule/Temp as the location of its Temp directory.

If you wish to relocate the Temp directory, you should be able to do that (I do it, myself).  You just can't move the aMule folder.
