fatal error : bad permission on incoming directoy
« on: January 24, 2006, 11:24:10 PM »

I have downloaded the version 2.1.0 for mac os X Tiger.
When I try to open the application , I immediately get the fatal error message : "bad permission on incoming directory"
I tryed  a month ago to use amuleV2.1.0 and I changed the incoming directory. I got the message at this time.
After "uninstalling" and "reinstalling" it it did not function correctly. I let it down but now I want to use it after reading it is one of the best tool of P2P.

So I have downloaded it again and I always get the message.

What can I do to find which is the incoming directory. I think I have to do a chmod 777 on it, but I don't know which it is.

(info : I am not so good with unix script.)

Thanks for your help

Thomas

Moved to the MacOSX forum.

As for the location, I'm afraid that I can't recall (I'm sure somebody else does), but I'll make sure that the error-messages are made more informative.

The default incoming directory in 2.1.0 on the Mac is "~/Documents/aMule Downloads". However, I don't really see why the permissions would be messed up there.
Btw, if aMule is not crashing upon that message (and it should not) then you can also go into "aMule preferences -> Directories" and check what the incoming directory is actually set to.

Hope this helps. :)

If you want to start totally fresh with aMule, you should go to ~/Library/Application Support and move the "aMule" folder to the Trash.  Then start aMule and it will revert to its default settings.

Otherwise, it will keep referring to whatever Incoming directory you set when you tried 2.1.0 in the past.

Nordic, did you use 2.0.3 before or is 2.1.0 the first version of aMule you tried?

Also, can you try to rename the "aMule" folder inside of "~/Library/Application Support" to something like "aMule_old" and then try to start aMule again?

No, it's first time I run aMule. I'll search this file in "~/Library/Application Support", but yersterday I didn't find it.

"~" stands for your home folder (the one with your name). Inside your home folder should be a "Library" folder (sorry, don't know what this is called in Spanish) and inside that folder an "Application Support" folder (again you need to figure out what this is called in Spanish). The aMule folder you should try to rename is inside the latter folder.

Well, I'm glad this fixed your problem. :)
I am, however, a little confused where your problem arose from in the first place.
